Thread: Clothing Repair Results Part I

Ok. Last night I tried an experiment to see how clothing repair actually works because it is mentioned on these forums fairly often. I have to say that I was suprised by the results! The experiment worked like this: I took 100 pairs of sturdy boots from the same factory runand died with them in my inventory so that they would decay to 950/1000 condition and I could repair them. Actually, because of a mistake it ended up being 99, but I think this is no problem. Anyway, I also made two crates of repair tools. One was made with junk materials and not experimented on so that they were 20% quality. The others used good materials and were experimented up to 99.7%. I have two characters. Momoko is a master tailor and Eimi is a master image designer with no artisan skills at all. Both Momoko and Eimi repaired 25 boots with the 20% tools and 25 boots with the 99.7% tools (24 for Momoko and the 99.7% tools because of the missing pair of boots). What I wanted to find out is if 1) the quality of the repair tool makes any difference and 2) if tailors get any bonus for repairing clothing. The answer to both of these questions is yes!!There are four results you can get when you repair clothes: you can get a complete failure (1/1), a marginal repair (660/660), a repair with reduced condition (800/800) and a "perfect" repair (950/950). These numbers are for clothing in 950/1000 condition by the way. I hope to do all of this over again with 100 pairs of boots in much worse condition, but that means dying a lot. Anyway, here are the results.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eimi (20% repair tool)

Complete Failure(1/1) - 44%

Marginal(660/660) - 40%

Reduced Condition - 16%

Perfect - 0%

Eimi (99.7% repair tool)

Complete Failure(1/1) - 12%

Marginal(660/660) - 16%

Reduced Condition - 16%

Perfect - 64%

Momoko (20% repair tool)

Complete Failure(1/1) - 40%

Marginal(660/660) - 28%

Reduced Condition(800/800) - 24%

Perfect(950/950) - 8%

Momoko(99.7% repair tool)

Complete Failure(1/1) - 0%

Marginal(660/660) - 4.2%

Reduced Condition(800/800) - 4.2%

Perfect(950/950) - 91.6%

Nice Job! It's really helpful to see the numbers compared like that. I am eager to see your resultson the lower condition boots. Bravo! 5 stars!

Thanks! I hope I can do the second part soon.Tailoring and image designing is a lot more fun than getting killed and repairing stuff, though.

Very interesting!

One problem (a typo or the like, I assume) is that the "Momoko with 20%" figures don't add up to 100.

I wondered whether you could get decent results from repairing items that were only 950/1000. I'd always half-thought those kind of repairs would fail a whole lot, or have weird results, simply because they're almost undamaged. But it looks pretty convincing. Nice job!

Oops. That was a huge typo! I fixed it. It should have been 40% for completly failing, not 4%. Anyway, its nice to see that we get a repair bonus for being tailors. I thought that maybe we didn't because "tailor repair" was removed from us and adding repair tapes to our clothes shows that we have a base repair bonus of 0.

That's weird - an artisan did a similar test a bit ago (and I can't find where I put the dang post) and there was no difference...

Stealth fix in the patch?

Very interesting. I'd be curious to find out if there was a difference in repairing items with high complexity vs items with low complexity.

Maybe the developers could add something into the knowledge base about repairs, and what the actual ratings and classes and skills do for you....

I can try that, although I am not sure I want to destroy 100 robes of honor!

Hmm...Its possible that clothing repair is actually an artisan skillinstead of a tailor skill. Momoko is a master artisan too. Maybe Smi can repair 25 more pairs of boot with some of the nice repair tools to compare to Momoko and Eimi? Are you up for that Smi?

Are you sure? I am sure those would sell well since I can never keep them in stock.
