Thread: Informal Poll: Socketing change, really a design decision?

Just wondering about my fellow tailors views on this. Do you think it was:

A.Simply a design change

B. An accidentally introduced bug that SOE doesn't want the devs to spend time to fix?

I go with B, simply because if this was done on purpose, there's no way it could possibly have taken a week to get an answer out of the devs on this. I think they needed time to get their story straight before responding. I am wondering if many of the other tailors are feeling as alienated and frustrated as I am. As a BE tailor who doesn't really make regular clothing, this is impacting what business I had in a huge way. Huge enough that though I don't want to, I am considering dropping tailor and picking up another Elite Artisan craft.

C) I think that tailor sockets were "broken" (and it is really too late to fix them, but they did it anyway) and they accidently fixed it when they copied the experimentation code from either artisan or armorsmith.

But what's the term "broken" really mean in an MMO? Does it give anyone an unfair advantage? Does it hinder certain play styles? Was it not working as intended?

It was working well enough that they didn't want to take the time to fix it. Now, faced with a decision, they choose not to put any time into it. Seems to me that it's not about making the game work, but, rather, about not spending time/money on a profession that's meerly a distraction from the real game (I read a post about that somewhere).

I just decided to quit tailor too. Since i Have 2 accounts I drop one account. Prolly making those last aprons i have ingredients for and the tissues i have and then drop it.

I am not really interested if it was on purpose or by accident. Tailors got nerfed while it already was an unbalanced artisan skill:

- Most itime-expensive profession of the artisan tree. Tailors need to make all end-products by hand to give the customer a wide

variation. (of all other skills only architect sometimes needs partial handcrafting for furniture)

- Lowest profits of the artisan tree.

-Added value of clothing is low. The amount of sockets is one thing that adds value. Biowear is another. People, except for entertainersdont "need" to

wear clothing except for the fun /to look good. Its not critical in a fight to wear clothing.

I just made some calculations. If we add expereimentation/quality resourcesfor Tailor the picture gets really grim:

High quality hides andfiberare sold for 20/30 CPU. There are other crafting professions that need those same resources.

So tis really not unthinkable Tailors have to get resources for that price. Especially hides are hard to come by.

I use this formula to set my prices:

Price = Amount resources*15 + Amount socket*100

Formasteritems price = Amount resources*20 + Amount socket*100

So i have to increase that at least with 20 or even 30 to get the same profit and then it would be

Price = Amount resources*35 + Amount socket*100

Formasteritems price = Amount resources*50 + Amount socket*100

A leotard or a robe of Honor was in the old price 8400cr. n the future it would be near 20k

And then i dont even calculate the loss of low socket items i have to perhaps throw away .

Ubese armor is buyable at 5k per item and it protects someone with 20% - 40% resist for that price. Do you think Tailors have a future at all based on these calculations?

I think joining the AS profession is not a bad move.

I think that whether it was intentional or not, the way it was implemented was uncalled for and disrespectful to us... If they feel some burning need to "fix" things in this proffession, I am sure that NJ would happily provide them with a list of things that we have been BEGGING for them to fix..

Do I think it was actually intentional? Not likely..
Do I think they really care? No..

In the end it doesn't really matter any more, because making clothing has just become more work then fun for me... NJ (Bless her heart) is the only reason I haven't left yet.. But for now, I have stopped all clothing production.. I will not sit and remake clothing over and over and over again in some desparate attempt to get sockets.. This is a game and it is supposed to be fun..

I'm with a bunch of the others on this one. I do believe that out previous socketing rate was unintentional, but really, now isn't the time to be fixing it. And to do it without saying anything, even when we asked is so incredibly disrepectful that I can tell you I honestly have no interest in logging on my tailor toon right now. Eventualy, maybe—but not until I've cooled off.

(Just for the record, my first toon went through a three-patch running primary profession nerf and has been logged about three times since then—I'd really hate to have the same fate befall Eicia, especially with the upcoming ID enhancements…but really, this is just too much.)

I'm not even on the same server as you and that would make me really sad.

Hey, ya never know—the triple CM nerf is why I'm on Kettemoor now instead of Gorath, maybe I'll make Lowca my next stop when they nerf my alt. (I've got this thing about giving up stills—I have trouble doing it…I'd rather shelf the toon for a rainy day and all that hehe. )

The thing that really got me about the CM nerfs is the the same thing that got me about the socket nerf and the player city nerf (remember when they told us about the caps only 24h before release?) It's the total lack of communication and the total disregard for and disrespect towwards players. Makes me steaming mad every sinlge time.
