Thread: Cost of Special attacks
I noticed while useing the Power Hammer that my health dropped significantly when useing specials instead of the usuall action cost with the curved. I examed both weapons and came to the conclusion that the Hammer had a higher Health encoumberance then the Action and Mind. And the curved a higher Action then Mind and Health.
Now this might be common knowledge to alot but it sure wherent to me, specials were based on health for the hammer and action for the sword, ie. It's useing the highest stat for special cost.
My opinion is that it is using all three pools, but the cost to the secondary pools is insignificant and often regens before it becomes noticable.
The reason I think this is because the colour of the numbers floating off my head when I use specials, while green, is a lighter green than when I get hit in the action pool - implying there is some red and blue mixed into the colour as well.
i.e. get hit in action pool, damage number is #00FF00 - use special, damage number is #22FF22
Maybe it functions like this.
If a Power Hammer has Health of 108, Action of 46, Mind of 60.
Then whenever we use a special attack it uses the highest number to determine which H/A/M pool to drain, then drains the two lowest numbers from the remaining pools?
Exsample.
I use a special with the power hammer, it costs me X times Health, or whatever the formula is and I lose 108 health + the cost of the special which might be the number listed above our heads? It then drains 46 Action and 60 mind.
Anychance someone can test this to see if it's true or Falsh?
Aye specials drains H/A/M but it's not that much it drains from the primary drained pool.
--------------------
Errr sorry what I meant to say is that it doesn't drain much from the two stats that are the lowest numbers. Ie if Mind is 100, Health 50, and Action 40 it doesn't drain much from Health and Action.
ZZZzzzZzzzz....time to go to rest..
I think each special has a ham drain modifier that affects all 3 ham costs on a weapon.
For example, if 2handedhit3 had a ham modifier of 2x, and a Power Hammer's ham is 100/30/20, then the initial drain would be 100x2/30x2/20x2. But since Strength, Quickness, and Focus all play a role in determine the final cost drain of the special, it will reduce the initial drain of 200/60/40 down to something lower, depending on your str/qui/foc. As for the exact formula the game uses to determine how much str/qui/foc reduces the ham cost of specials, I have no idea, but I do hope they release info on it.
If the Official Prima Guide can be trusted, each special has three cost modifiers, one for each HAM bar. Here are the stats listed by Prima for 2handedhit3:
Description: More Damage + Dizzy
Targets Affected: Single
Area/Cone Length: N/A
Area/Cone Width: N/A
Time Modifier: 2.5
Damage Modifier: 4
Health Cost: 1.25
Action Cost: 2
Mind Cost: 1.25
To-Hit Modifier: 10
Attacker End Posture: No Change
Defender End Posture: No Change
Chance to Apply Effect: 30%
Effect 1: Dizzy
Effect 1 Duration: 30
Effect 2: N/A
Effect2 Duration: N/A
Effect 3: N/A
Effect3 Duration: N/A
So to use your example, if a Power Hammer's HAM costs are 100/30/20, and you doa 2handedhit3, the base costs would be 100x1.25/30x2/20x1.25. This would be further modified by Strength, Quickness, and Focus - as you said, and Prima does not list the formula for this (that I can find).
