I have a Wookie Swordsman on Kauri (0/0/1/0, just started) and I usually spend most of my time on Dant, trying to kill things. Sometimes I group, sometimes I don't. Either way, this is usually how it goes:

Omor runs in to kill thing, does half decent job. Thing gets mad, slaps Omor like little girl, and incaps(sometimes db's) him.

I hate melee guys for one reason: Because we get our asses handed to us on a regular basis. Now, this brings me to my question. I have been hearing alot about people making Master Brawler before climbing one of the Elite trees, so I ask you this:

You see that for every tree, there is some sort of Melee Defense Modifier. You know, on the way to TKA, Unarmed Defense goes up about ten each level of Brawler Unarmed. That's great...but not if you're using a sword, or a two-handed weapon, or a polearm. The question is pose is, do all these particular defense modifiers affect you ALL the time, or only when you fit into that specific preset. I mean, does my +35 Unarmed Melee Defense help with my basic melee defense if I am hacking away at something with my 2handed Curved sword, and does my +20 OneHanded Melee Defense help when I am going Jackie Chan on a huurtons ass? I was just wondering...cause if they don't, I can drop them and use the skill points for something else. Like, a Chef maybe. Beats getting my ass kicked by Ewoks, for chrissakes.

If it just says "melee defense" or "ranged defense" then yes, they will stack for you. If the skill modifier specifically mentions a weapon type then it will only be active when using that specific weapon type. In example, there is 2-handed toughness, 1-handed toughness, polearm toughness, and unarmed toughness. Even though you may have all of those defense skills, each one will only work when using the specific weapon. The main reason you hear about people mastering brawler is due to the added stats in the Master Brawler box and the new specials gained (Berserk2, Intimidate2, Warcry2, and Lunge2) from Master. Those special's help alot when fighting. I hope this answered your question. Your biggest problem is most likely the fact that you can't wear armor. I know a few wookie melee's and they all swear by doctor buffs.
