Thread: Is master brawler worth my time?

If I'll be participating in PVP fairlyoften, is it worth my time and skill points to pick up master brawler? Basically, are the skill mods and the extra attack (it's a KD, right?) worth picking up?

I'm not terribly serious about PVP, I do it for fun, but I'd still like to use all the tools available to my advantage.

Master Brawler is extremely worth it and I don't know how any melee oriented character can live without it. The huge nerf to Warcry may change that, but as of now it is most definitely worth the points.

id have to say NO, the nerf means that the warcry is worthless in pvp, and while u do get lunge 2 and intimidate 2 id rather use those skill-points on something that makes u a better overall fighter, right now im going master cabineer, before p7 it will give me awesome counterattack... and after ill have a ranged attack to make sure people just dont run away from me. if u can grind brawler in a day or two i say go for it, have fun before p7 because it does give u a great deal. but after the patch id drop it like a bad habit...

good luck with it mate

Thats a hell of a lot of skill points wasted just for the warcry, which is going to be nerfed anyway. Don't bother.

Intimidate2 and Lunge2 are just as important as Warcry ESPECIALLY if you want to be able to PvP as a Brawler.

I'm of the mind the Master Brawler will be hard to keep after the impending nerf.

For all you PvPers though it might be worth keeping. Consider that my local chef makes food that gives protection versus KD +81. Consider that lunge2 is a KD that is actually a posture change. There is no food versus posture change. Your only KD chance might be lunge2 in the future.

It depends on a lot of factors.

1) What kind of PvP will you do the most? Group or one on one. If its group PvP then don't bother and use the skill points in another area like ranged mitigation, terrain negotiation etc.

2) What do you really want to do with your character? For me collecting animal meat for the doctors and combat medics in my PA is what I spend most of my time doing, so that when we go on imp hunts we have ample supplies of buffs, poisions etc.

Master brawler as a must have is more hype then benefit when it really comes down to it.

it depends on the rest of your skills really. You could be a more efficient and proficient combat character when you combine various trees and various professions and ranged and melee and such. I personally am a pure brawler however, so for me Master Brawler is very much worth it. Swordsman doesn't have a reliable dizzy knockdown, so PvP especially vs TKA is quite hard as purely a swordsman with 0040 brawler. However as a master brawler, I have unarmed blind, unarmed/polearm stun, one-handed dizzy, intimidate2, warcry2, berserk2and lunge2. Say what you want about usefulness of the knockdown moves or the impending warcry nerf (which I haven't read up on, so I wouldn't know), but a knock-down that works from TWENTY metres, is VERY useful in PvP. People have a much harder tme kiting you when you can knock them down from where you stand, they usually don't expect to be unsafe outside 10m. Also, a reliable berserk that doesn't end in 10 seconds has saved my ass from being ganked countless times.

As a swordsman without a KD of our own, the lunge2 is certainly needed to progress in PvE. You can succeed against a rancor if you have good armour, but it's so much better to knock them down and keep them there guaranteed for 20 seconds. You can do a LOT of damage in 20 seconds on a prone enemy.

Ask yourself what you want to become. If you want to be a martial artist like I am, master brawler is something you'll obtain for kicks and never want to surrender again. If you want to be the best possible all-round fighter, you need to combine it with a ranged profession instead and the benefits of master brawler will not be significant to what you will already have.

It's master brawler, i.e. master martial artist, ie. useful only to those who want to play as a melee fighter almost exclusively.

Thanks for the many opinions, this is really an excellent board.

I have made the decision to at least try master brawler. I'm not really doing anything else with my skill points at the moment (well, except advancing in swordsman),and I'm not a template warrior,so we shall see how well thispure meleecombination works. Again, thanks for everyones help.

Hmmm, Go Master Carbines in Publish 7 to compliment what the Swordsman lacks in specials and Ranged Damage Mitigation. In P7 they have kd / dizzy / blind / stun all with an area of effect.. Just imagine doing AoE Dizzy, AoE KD, then use swordsman Area Attack...
