how come i cant head hit 3 at the speed cap? im a master swordsman using a 3.7 hammer and it seems i hit every 2 seconds or so...and im not even sure if the overall dmg per minute is better with the 3.7, it has a max dmg of 438 and i have a slower hammer with 626 max dmg, 5.5 speed which i use quite often.

throw me some numbers here..how much more + 2h speed do i need to hit at the speed cap? would getting master brawler for the extra +5 speed help?

To use the 3.7 hammer, you need to get your 2H speed to +89 or +90

To use the 5.5 hammer, youneed to get your 2H speed to +93

I don't know how many skill tapes you need, b/c I don't know if you're a master brawler or not, but I hope you can do subtraction, lol.

The formula is ((100 - your speed skill) / 100) * weapon speed * special speed mod = number of seconds between swings. If this number is less than 1, then it is 1. This is refered to as the speed cap where you can only attack oncea second.

If you have only master swordsman, you have a speed skill of 75. This means you can swing a total delay of 4 at the speed cap of one attack every second.

If you have master swordsman and master brawler, your speed skill is 80. This translates to being able to hit the speed cap with a speed 5 delay.

The closer you get to a speed skill of 100, the longer a delay you can deal with. I think head hit 3 is either a 3 special mod, which means a speed 4 weapon will have a 12 second delay. In order to swing a speed 12 delay at the speed cap, you need a91ish speed skill.

This is why people hate rifleman. Their weapons are slow, but with 90 speed from master rifleman they can fire a 10 second delay at the speed cap. Throw in master marksman for 95 speed and they can fire a 20 second delay at the speed cap. This is why a rifleman can fire a speed 8 T21 at the speed cap with almost any special.

I generally use damage sliced weapons as it lowers the HAM hit of using specials. I choose to hit harder verses hitting more often due to the fact that specials use the same amount HAM regardless of damage. As a master swordsman your rarely going to hit the speed cap with every special on any weapon, unless you have SEAs.

Does anyone have a list of the delay times for each of the specials? How bout just the specials that are good?

Yup, there is a sticky post on the top of the swordsman boards.

The way to calculate your attack speed is:

Real attack speed= Weapon speed * Special attack delay * (100-two handed speed)/100

For example a master swordsman with a 3.7s PH using headHit3 (delay 2.5):

Real attack speed = 3.7 * 2.5 * (100-75) / 100 = 2.31s

With the 5.5s hammer:

Real attack speed =...= 3.44s

If i asume the max/min ratio of your hammers are the same your 5.5s hammer does 43% more damage. However it has a 49% slower attack speed so you should use the faster hammer for higher Damage Per Second.

A +5 speed tape would help a lot, it would add 25% to your damage output if you have +84 or lower two handed speed before you take the attatchment into account, if you have higher speed than that the faster hammer would hit the speed cap with headHit3 and theslower hammer would probably catch up on the DPS.
