In the guides i didn't find a suggestion what weapon is good for Novice Swordsman. At the moment i use a curved sword with 47-234 Damage and Speed 2.6. What would be the weapon of choice for less then 20k?

Well i used speed sliced Power Hammer from novice to master. It's dmg is far more better than other 2h swords but it is quite slow at low skills.

I used my Master TK skills to grind combat xp up so that i could use a Scythe, then i bought a speed sliced one and it has never failed me.

It's all in the speed

You should really pay up and get a faster sword, I took some numbers and ran them through this thing, the imaginary numbers come from what I had available in the non-espensive category and your current sword speed improved:
2h Curved
47-234
speed 1.7 (this would be a quite ok speed slice)

Power hammer
140-435 (pretty run-of-the-mill)
Speed 4.1 (roughly 25% speed slice)

Putting those numbers through the calculator, going by possible speed increases up the techniques branch, 35 (novice), 50 (2nd box) and 65 (4th box), the sword wins every time in damage per second. Doing the same with unsliced gear should yeild the same result, sword 2.6, hammer 5.6, but I'll leave that up to yourself to do
