Hey guys,
I've been a fencer for longer then I can remember now. I just picked up Master Doc also and am currently FS grinding on the side I guess.
Me and friends usually go NS elder hunting or Krayt hunting. They are Master Rifleman / Master Swords and Master Swords / Master Doc. I am usually the tank in these things since fencers are built to be the best tanks. Or so I have always read.
If I drop Fencer and take up Master Swords instead, how much more damage will I be taking ? The only time I ever wear armor is if I'm hunting things with these guys, other then that I never really have a need for it.
Thanx

Swordsmen actually take less damage. We have 43 toughness, which equates to 43% less melee damage, whereas fencers only get 32 (32% less damage.). And dodge/counterattack don't really do much in PvE.
TKA are really the best melee tanks, if you only care about tanking.

our defense isnt all that great..as long as you have enough melee/ranged defenses from another proffession..or your a doc.. you wont have too much problems.

I think 140+ counterattack is better in practice then dodge is. Dont hardly get hit at all.
But you have to go carbines 0/0/3/0 to get there. I think it is totally worth it tho.

Oddly, I'm doing the exact same thing. Doc, dropping fencer for swords.
I'm thinking its better for one reason: Mind Hits. As a fencer, you don't take as much mind power off, and that's pretty important for some spawns, like Janta Rockshapers. The only way to kill them is by killing their mind. Same with Nyax, and a few other high power NPCs. I'm also interested to see how the defense mods stack up against fencer........with fencer, you give up alot of defense for speed, while swordsman seems to be slower, but better defended. Although, I'm only 0001 fencer right now, with a 1.9 speed curved sword, and I'm already pretty fast, faster than I think I was at that stage of fencer, for sure.

If your looking to solo Krayts and Elders melee defense isn't really going to help since they have insane accuracy mods. All state defenses do help though. Since you want to keep Master Doc you can heal your own states. I personally dropped doc to go the Master Brawler, 0440 Fencer, 0300 TKA, 0040 pikeman, 2040 Medic with 4 points in FS melee speed.
You will need to get your speed up since a Master Swordsman is at 75 speed and you want to get it as close to 100 as possible. So if your doing the FS grind pick up the melee speed line to put you at 87 then see if you can find some speed attatchments which are expensive. Swordsman is all about damage per second. A speed capped swordsman with a good powerhammer is a pve killing machine. A defense stacked, speed capped swordsman with an exceptional hammer is walking death for now.

Also decent AP
AP.......Apprentice points? Doesn't matter anymore, you don't need them for anything.
Thanks on the speed thing, I wasn't sure how much slower I'd be. I have a couple of speed AA's stored, I'll have to use them later, when I master.

By AP he means armor piercing, all swordsman weapons are AP 2. And you only need to get to 95 speed. That is because the slowest hammer you'll ever find is 5.9 which is an Acklay hammer and with a speed of 95 you'll hit at the speed cap.
