This thread is for providing handy tips to fellow swordsmen. I'll start.

1. Save up 10-20k and buy a 2H curved sword from a master weaponsmith. Trust me, it's worth it.

2. Get it sliced by someone good and trustworthy. Mine is 79-312, 2.7 speed.

3. As of right now, DON'T USE SPECIAL ATTACKS. The only exception is if you're fighting multiple targets at once, then it's ok to use your spin attack.

4.Here's my best tip. I know people are going to hate me for this, but this is such a useful thing. When grouped with people and fighting hard mobs, and you're low on life, let someone else (another melee) get closest to the mob. If you're both fighting the same mob, stand 1m behind your partner, your partner will take ALL the damage. Cheap? yes. Useful in grouping? HELL yes.

5. When doing a destroy mission with RED cons, and you know you can't kill the guys, attack the lair and only the lair. Use your most powerful attacks, and burst run away. Red cons are labeled "Instant Death". You shouldn't be expected to win that fight.

6. When PvPing, try to fight other Melee'rs as much as possible. As of now, fighting a Ranged PC is a losing battle. Also, use your most powerful attack, disregarding the HAM costs. You can easily 1hit kill. Though this will be changed when "the big patch" comes out. PvP damage will be reduced by 75%

Simple things like this make all the difference in the world.

I hope these tips helped. Please keep this going and leave tips of your own.

I just wanted to start out by saying I like CaptMorgan. He makes me laugh. Now I just have to stop laughing at work...

My tip comes from the fact that I'm an Armorsmith anda Swordsman. Armor does help but only if you do it right. I make my own Chitin and wear it while fighting and can kill all kinds of stuff that is yellow and quite a few that is red cons. Just be very conservitave with the special attacks. I'll take out yellow cons by using only one or two big special moves at the end to finish it off. I'll take out red cons by doing NOT ONE special move. The armor will better than half the damage from the enemy, but that dosen't help if you are hurting yourself more with special moves.

So, my full suit of chitin and a Master crafted two-handed curved sword, we kick butt and chew bubble gum... and I'm officaly out of bubble gum.

So I throw my best salute and say, 'Major, I regret to report only partial success with the Personal Cloaking Device.'" - Wraith Squadron by Aaron Alliston

Also, for the novice swordsman, the Veermonk cave on Theed (right behind Deja Peak shuttle port, over the mountain to the west) everything is white & yellow, all easy solo-able with a good sword.

Anyone have a tip for how to fight against TKAs? I'm a 1/1/1/1 novice swordsman who just tried PvP for the first time last night in an Anchorheadraid.

It was really fun and overall I was very pleased with the profession's performance. If I was careful, I could sneak up on marksmen who were not paying attention and 1- or 2-shot them - mucho fun. However, my fights with a TKA were not fun. In 6 fights, I resisted knockdown twice and easily beat him. In the other four fights, he knocked me down as the first move and I just laid on the ground to die.

Should I just be running away from TKAs? That seems kinda silly, but the only active defense against knockdown. Do the passive defenses I get higher up in the class really help? It is frustrating to be completely unable to do something active to prevent insta-death.

Best to use Mind Wound when you are on PvP. There are no cure for mind wound orI could be wrong (not a doctor).

I also used on red humanoid npc's and the mind wound can kill a humanoid within 6k of mind point. Each wound kicks in about 1.6k point. No one has that many mind points anyway. If the npc die with mind wound, you will get no exp. You need to run up to him/her and finish him/her off to get the full exp. Easy kill especially with red humanoid npc's.

Neither medics nor doctors can heal mind wounds. Only TKA's with 4th tier Meditate / Master TKA's or entertainers can heal mind wounds.

Uhm, no tip, sorry! I'm just starting to get into the Swordsman profession

Get at least Explore 3. Running slowly sucks, especially if MoBs or people are trying to kite you.

My tip in fighting a TKA would be to get the first attack off to lower posture. EVERY TK, I fight whores Knockdown. So, in turn... make sure you are the first to get off the posture change attack. Once you get it off about a couple times go ahead and finish off with a 2handhit or finish off again with posture since by that time it will be low on their end. Its kinda cheesy, but effective considering all of the TK's that whore knockdown. I do the same with Pistoleers who love to Pistol Whip. Be the first on the draw in PvP... essentially that is what make the difference in a fight.

My little group does fine against ranged NPCs. One swordsman, one marksman, and one medic.

Ranged NPCs like to lie down to get a better shot at the marksman. Im already closing in by this time, and drop a large knife on them, hard. Then the medic refills my action pool

A really good tip for Swordsman (as I see it) Take Medic Scout and entertainer (if only novice) to help reduce downtimes between combats. Helps a bunch!
