Thread: Master Swordsman/Master CH or Master Swordsman/Master Rifle? pros and cons
I'm doing quite well with CH. The taming isn't that dangerous since I sarted CH much later than 2H and can fight my way out of mostbad taming sessions.
As far as a tank partner this is really nice. Some of the pets I own (although this may change after the patch to CH) have ranged attack and for very high level mobs my pet can start before me and drop some dots - soften the target to 3/4 and then I can jump in and we can tag team it.
I solo much of the time and it's like having a teamate.. but one that doesn't whine (except, "hungry, play") and it doesn't stealmy exp or reward.
I've never fired a firearm so I can't speak for Master Rifle but since taming my first Dwarf Nuna, CH has opened my eyes to a whole new gaming experience. I've end up mostnightsin the farthest reaches of the most dangerousworlds seeing and experiencing things I wouldn't have without the sense of adventure CH adds.
i have both... err had
(swordsman need 2 box on finesse to reach master, sniper2/rifle special attack 3, Taming4/management3)
so.. here's the breakdown..
Swordsman = best way to get tons of xp from big monster.. crazy DPS with berserk (not anymore)...
Rifle = great for mindshot2/mindshot1 stack.. soften the enemy up a bit. usually i only go for either sword or rifle xp.. not both.. cause i have:
Pet = my tanks, my friends, my babies... with the right pets, there is nothing in the galaxy you should fear... unless there are tons of em... during the early baznitch days, i got tons of xp just with my tanking gurreck + berserk swordie.. no more of that for u guys =)
advantage of sword: u get cool title... high dps... u could one shot ppl (not anymore)
disadvantage of sword: crappy defense compared to TKA, high action cost. no useful move
advantage of rifle: fantastic for PvP... 80% of my kills... if not more.. crazy bleed to annoy people..
disadvantage of rifle: crap in PvE due to low dps... with the new 25% damage system, it'll be crap in PvP too.. luckily we have sword backup =).
advantage of pet: u can basically solo anything u want... if they're alone.. darkjedi/nightsister/whatever. great for medic xp as well... send em in, watch em die, fix em up.. maxed my medic in a night using that... (i untrained the pets last night for medic... no not because of the patch...mainly cause i'm almost maxed out and bored)
disadvantage of pet: its cheap, u'll feel dirty for using them, and you should =) otherwise u're in denial. lol well maybe not after this patch.. who knows...
I'm rifleman/swordsman.
Pro: Rifles are good in PvP.
Con: You obviously can't use your rifle and sword at the same time so the benefits don't "stack".
I would imagine for CH/swordsman it would be something like:
Pro: You have a pet that's better at tanking than you are.
Con: Sometimes having to back out of melee range because your pet isn't holding agro.
I think the best combo in the game right now is CH/Pistoleer:
Pro: You have a supertank pet and the best damage-per-second of any class in the game.
Con: ...?
once u learn the range with pet, ur pet will hold agro nicely
just do an L shape.....
X ------ pet

you
distance from enemy to pet: 3m, distance from you to pet: 5m or 4m... never go 3
this is harder to do if the enemy is really big (faamba) or ur pets are really big (rancor)... another bad things about having a huge idiot around. =) keep with gurreck as pet and biznatch as enemy and u'll do fine..
as for why the L shape and not front/back formation.. its because often the enemy will push ur pet back or ur pet>enemy.. if u do back and forth with pet, u're risking yourself agro (if the enemy pushes ur pet back or if u're chasing it too far ahead).. and with lag, u don't wanna risk it =)

You'll do fine? Are you sure? I thought you just got done saying you were maxxed out and bored. I'm thinking if you had hunted without a pet and not exploited the biznatches you wouldn't be bored yet.
Anyway, I split my time between rifle and swordsman and I think it's a good combo. Pull with a bleed and melee the dying mob as it comes in.
