Thread: Master Swordsman: Worth the points?

I very much enjoy my 2-handed skills, they blow away ranged fighting in terms of fun. I'm currently 2412.

I've heard a lot of players complain that all of our moves are too similar, and I'm inclined to agree somewhat.

My question is if it's really worth the extra skill points to pick up attacks that are basically just slightly powered-up versions of ones we already have. I mean, all I ever really use is Mind Hit 1, Head Hit 1 2 3 and 2-Handed Hit 2.

Idon't use our area attacks much because I try not to fight pack assist creatures and the posture changes, etc don't really seem to do too much.

I'm looking for an objective opinion on the advantages of spendingadditional skills points on more of the same. Are they really that much more powerful?

My experience has been thatour strongest moves are thetwo mind bleeds, applied with the powerhammer, and headhit3.Master swordsman isworth it just for the extra speed it gives, but for even more speed and power, get master brawler.

As an example for what speed does for you, let's say you have techniques 4, so you have speed +65. And you can do a certainspecial with a certain weapon every, let'sjust say 4 seconds.

  • Add master swordsman speed +10, and you can do that attackevery 3.47 seconds (15% more DPS)

  • Add master brawler speed +5 on top of that, and you can do that attack every 3.25 seconds (23% more DPS thansomeone with only techniques 4)

I recommend getting master brawler not only for the extra speed, and toughness, but most of all for 2hLunge2, theknockdown move.KDfollowed by headhit3 = massive damage.

As far as the other moves, I never use any of thespins or sweeps, because the area attacks seem to do the same thing, with less HAM cost.Area1isgood for repeated use when surrounded, Area3 is stronger but with much higher cost. The dizzy effect onArea3 doesn't landoften enough to depend on it.

Hit3 is a nice move if you're grouped and need to damage the red bar, but for soloing, or teamed up with another swordsman,it's headhit3 all the way.

That's kinda what I'm getting at. I have Area 1 and 2, Mind Hit 1 and 2, and Head Hit 1, 2 and 3 at 2412. I feel like I've got 80% of everything at 50% of the cost. If no one sees much use for the spin and sweep attacks, what's the point of continuing up?

Anybody of the opinion that Master is indispensible and totally justified?

The reason I ask is because I dont want to make the mistake I made with Ranger. I started up the tree and never stopped to wonder if it was worth it. I got to the top and realized that I could live without 75% of it, no problem.

Actually the speed increase is more than that.

Take a Power Hammer with a speed of 5.5.

With master techniques, you will be able to make normal attacks at a speed of 1.925.

With master swordsman, you will be able to make normal attacks at a speed of 1.375. That is a 40% increase in damage per second (also calculated with .35/.25).

With master swordsman and master brawler you will be able to make normal attacks at a speed of 1.1. This will be a 75% increase in dps over just master techniques (.35/.2) and a 25% increase in dps over just having master swordsman.
