Thread: How many of you choose this profession and how many of you are passing through?

/confirmed (noviced approx. July 28)

Simple question. I'm curious because we seem to be so few in number and thus so under represented (no offense to Gorecki). Being honest here, I've not posted to our profession board before, but really it was only because 1) I had nothing to offer, and 2) lately I have nothing positive to add. These boards don't need another whiner, so I apologize to all of you in advance, but like a few questions answered:

What I'd like to know, like so many other classes (see BH petition now going on http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bounty_hunter&message.id=84807&view=by_date_ascending&page=1) is when will our class improve? None of you holocron-draftees I bet will be sticking around to help the profession (off to the next profession, right?), and I'm wondering:

--when can I join PvP? do I have to be a Master to even survive a single pistoleer/etc. encounter?

--when can I solo ST's? do I have to be a Master to even survive a squad of three whites?

--when can I do bleeds? mindshots are nice, but if I wanted to play a class that just hit once and ran away I would've played a stealther in DAoC and just gank ppl cowardly.

--when can I play a swordsman and not have to major in TKA or Smuggling or CH to complete terminal missions, quests and just normal aggro? When can I major in Swordsman?

Finally, since SOE has had a complete breakdown in management, it appears that only squeaky wheels are getting fixed (see Commando). Any plans for us to start a petition? Thanks.

I chose this profession because I like to be the "tank" of a group, melee combat is fun for me,and hitting for high damage is always fun. When I got master brawler I was deciding between swordsman and pikeman, and I chose swordsman because of the higher damage, better accuracy, and the fact that a swordsman can target the mind pool.

I chose this profession because it's not a ranged profession, and it's not TKA.

"Finally, since SOE has had a complete breakdown in management

Yeah that is a pretty opinionated I guess I want to avoid whining/ranting too much, but there just doesn't seem to be any constructive or medium-term plan being communicated from SOE on what they're going to fix/balance/create. It looks like the group who complains the loudest -- justified or not -- wins.

i took the class for the fun of it. and the ability to lay out a smack down to npc's/creatures. its fun running up to a lone fambaa and killing it without getting incaped.

Holocron induced here...

Though I like it...the "out of range" thing is very annoying and managing aggro with a large pet is infuriating.

Still I'm getting used to it, big difference from being a BH/Pistoleer which was pretty much a cakewalk.

This character was the first I'd created- probably week after relaese. Being a musican in RL, I HAD to explore that. I picked up a variety of the novice professions to try them out. I've always been a fan of swords/axes (Aragorn/Gimli for example) and really enjoyed it. I also picked up Ranged/Rifle so I'd have some method of ranged attack.

I'm now Novice Sword 3-4-0-3 and loving it. I piciked up Novice CH on the way up- ditching Rifle/Marksman completely. It's gonna be tight doign master sword, master musician, but I'm enjoying the journey quite a bit.

If a holocron tells me otherwise, I'll probably just sell the thing.

I was going to do the BH mainly because I liked the fact that they had a purpose. I.e. Bounty Missions and there are so few people actually mastering BH. A lot of people dabbling in it for the weapons and not doing the investigation just so they could wear the "Expert Bounty" tag. To me these people ruin the profession and I'm all for putting the highest end specials in the Master box only. That would disssuade those that aren't serious about being a BH...but I digress. Because of all the nerfing to the BH that is going to happen in the next patch, I decided I wanted to play a melee class. Thought about TKA for awhile, but I see too many of them and don't want another "Me too" character. So now I'm into Two handed 2 and slowly making my way up. The thought of wrecking people using blasters, flamethrowers, and LLC's with a sword is...well- it just rocks.

If SOE stops messing with the BH so much I might go back to it, but by then I'm sure I'll like the SM too much. As far as when you can join PvP - well that's up to you. I wouldn't reccommend running around overt all the time just yet, but if you can get into some group pvp then go for it. As long as there are players shooting at eachother, they very rarely will notice you since they are so busy watching the red lines fly around....by the time they DO notice, well...it's too late

I can't answer your other questions yet as I haven't hit novice and I honestly have a lot of my own questions about this profession, but from what I have seen it looks like it will be fun. I would like to see more weapon variety, but supposedly this will come someday. I mean, the PH is awesome, but if I'm a master swordsman dammit I want a uber sword - not a hammer lol.

I choose this profession since the beginning. I have always liked being the tank character. Working up the Brawler tree in Two-Handed it was a rough grind. But only because I like to be a solo player. Once I hit Novice TwoHanded Swordsman, mobs gota little easier. I love being able to run into a group of 4 white aggros, and target one guy. Whip out my Powerhammer and spam twohandedspinattack2. I can take them all down with life still left over. I imagine as soon as I learn how to get buffs I will be even better. I will hold on to this profession always I think.

--when can I join PvP? do I have to be a Master to even survive a single pistoleer/etc. encounter?

>> there is never a good point for melee. Just accept that every ranged has advantage over you, doesnt matter what skills he has. Adn you will do just fine

--when can I solo ST's? do I have to be a Master to even survive a squad of three whites?

>> only with swordsman skills? You will never be 100% to survive it. Pick up doctor, CH, Rifleman, etc. Sword skills are just a part of your training, you need something to complete your way.

--when can I do bleeds? mindshots are nice, but if I wanted to play a class that just hit once and ran away I would've played a stealther in DAoC and just gank ppl cowardly.

>> use bleeds on strong targets, something you need more then 5-6 hits for. Or something can run away, it will not kill them, but weaken enough for 1shot kill with ranged weapon. Its not worth the time for weaker targets.

--when can I play a swordsman and not have to major in TKA or Smuggling or CH to complete terminal missions, quests and just normal aggro? When can I major in Swordsman

>> you cant. It will be easier as master with great armor, but you will still die too fast. Buy crates of food and spices or become doctor, best way to help you last longer.

been novice since sometime in mid august. i picked it cause it was fun takin out multiple enemies at a time (remeber the time before the posture change timer) and i just liked seein my character walk around carrying a cleaver or 2-handed curved, and also for the fact that it isnt very popular.

its funny how much ppl comlain about how bad off they are and how some of their specials are broken, when their not half as bad off as us melee (besides tka). they just think about themselves. you could say that you cant blame them, but i do, since i support the pikeman and chefs more than anyone else, and ive never been either one, except a few boxes in the brawler tree for polearm.

This is the profession i chose and will stay with. I played swordsman in every mmorpg game i have and will always. And if the holo's are the way to the Force Slot, then i guess i will never have it, cause i will not drop any skills, especially Swordsman.

- I support the proper use of common sense when it comes to re-developing games which are nearly two years into their tenure...evidently this sentiment is not shared by those that finance this game.
