I'm a Swordsman, 1/3/1/2. Little wierd i know.

I have been tossing up between using the Curved Sword or Powerhammer.

At the moment I'm wearing 50% Kinetic resist armor, Chest, legs and helmet. With STIM Bs and the curved sword(no specials) i can easily take a quenker lair. I was fed up though with having this Powerhammer that always misses, it's the only reason i dont use it.

Today i got in contact with a Weaponsmith and we tried a few things out with Powerhammers. The best one we got was as follows....

Speed: 5.7

Damage: 115-430

Ranged mods: -10

Sliced for 29% damage, it's ended up at

Speed: 5.7

Damage: 144-553

Ranged mods: -10

Now when i hunt i use one special with my powerhammer then switch to my curved. It's the best thing I've ever done. I suggest anyone who hasnt got a nice range mod Powerhammer go out and get one. I looked on vendor but they were all -30. If you can't find one lower, get in contact with a Weaponsmith and get one done, they're brilliant.

The higher the better. So -8 is the best.

Thanks. I will pay more attention to the range mod in future weapon crafting.

you think you are tired of missing, the long vibro axe is -54/-54/-54.

If we had -10/-10/-10.....i would cry.

the -30 range mod on PH doesnt really matter much if u r master swordsman. i will suggest weapsmiths make both high dmg/-30 range and low dmg/-10 range power hammers for different type of swordsman.

i just got master swordsman and im using a 186-633dmg @ 4.5spd power hammer (after sliced + powup) and it pretty much kick any a$$ that moves lol.

havent try it in pvp yet, cross fingers

You can at least on ahazi make + range power hammers. they're 1-7or so but they are + to hit. damage and speed take a hit but a low damage hit is better then a miss.. good starter hammers and still 2handhit2 for 2500+ about 1 k below the high damage -30 hammers. but you'll hit twice as much (atleast) its a alternative till you get speed and accuracy up to hit a little more regularly with the big hammers.

When I was a master swordsman, I felt I noticed a difference between a -19 hammer and a -31 ranged hammer. I noticed the dark troopers I was area 3 hitting where falling faster, that is why I leave my range at -21 when I make my hammers, and still have like 5.5 speed and 453 max dmg. I made a +3 hammer once. But the dmg was so low, and it was so slow, you might as well use a 2hcurved, unless there is something vulnerable to blast. the accurate ones I make are around -14 range, and 5.8 spd, and I think like 420 or 430 max dmg. I was wondering if anyone has seen where the difference in range mod doesn't matter, and also when you have sacrificed enough dmg and speed that your dps goes way down, though you may be hiting more. I am trying to run experiments on that, but I am no longer a HS, because I am holo grinding in the entertainer, marksmen, merchant lines, while still being master WS.

Lemme just say I haven't quite gotten to the point where I notice a difference between ranged mods, other than my Powerhammer didn't hit at all when I first got novice Swordsman. So I ended up using a curved two-handed for a while. Around the time I got advanced finesse, I switched back to powerhammer. That +20 to accuracy made all the difference.

With finesse 1, I would hit about 2-3 times per 5 swings. After finesse 2, I would hit 4-5 times per 5 swings.

I still use my curved occasionally, mostly when lairs spawn babies and I don't need to hit them hard or if I am just fighting off sevorrts or other low level aggros.

Just for reference, I am 0-4-4-3 in swordsman now. But I think the accuracy from finesse 2 is the only thing that affects this though.

I'll say this and I KNOW THAT NO ONE WILL LISTEN....and why would you. Everyone on these boards is smarter then the last person that just posted.

But anyways....2hand is not a proffesion to dabble in really. Once you hit master things like range modifiers just dont matter anymore cause your accuracy is much higher. I wouldnt reccomend anyone waste their time with the power hammer till you atleast reach battlemaster. Its too slow and the slower you attack the better chance you stand of missing whatever your trying to hit. Work on your tecniques tree first...getting your speed up should be your top priority. Untill then use a curved sword. Theres really no point to even owning a hammer untill you get to battle master...your only slowing your own progress by using one.

After that get offense 1 and spam area attack....other then head hit 3 its the only good skill a heavy swordsman has.

Good points. I was a battlemaster way back and am picking up the old dusty blade again now. I did techs first last time, this time I'm doing defense first, then tech, then offense. I also am starting as 0012 cause of all my old exp. I find, right now at least, that a good 2handcurved is WAY better than my hammer. My sword is sliced for speed and I never use powerups cause of the damage to cond. is way faster. Hammer is sliced for speed too. 2handcurved is [email protected], and hammer is [email protected] I also have a damage sliced rancor enhanced 2hand curved that is around [email protected], if i remember correctly, but find that it is the worst option I have. I kick the crap out of most things I fight, but I think that is cause I drape myself in 3 layer comp helm and chest, while complimenting this with all 75% kinetic ubese, all sliced for encumb. If u got the dough, 75%ubese is the bread and butter for melee right now. Imec out

Im big on speed is the only reason i guess i went with tech first. Both my weapons i got sliced for power cause with master brawler and some speed tapes I was able to do specials with a power hammer almost as fast as my curved. I guess its a matter of preffrence for most but to any just looking for the fastest way to be a PvE tank this is that fastest way to do it.

i am currently a 2/1/4/2 in swordsman. as a wookiee, i strongly reccomend that you start the defense tree FIRST. as we wooks dont get armor and PSGs suck butt, the melee dmg mitigation and defense vs. knockdown are a god send. the fact that wooks cant wear armor bugs me, so i am doing carbineer/swordsman to hopefully compensate until the devs fix the buggy PSG MKIIIs.
