Hi, coming off a crafting profession so I'm pretty new to this melee stuff. I know that food will buff your stats but my question is this.

As a swordsman or any melee type what food/drink should I be eating and drinking? And, what stats does it buff? Trying to avoid buying a bunch of useless food/drink.

Thanks.

first off you want some varasian (sp) brandy, stats should be roughly 400+ for about 40 min and 50 or under filling. the brandy will buff all of you mind stats (mind, focus, will) depending on the stats so in this case it would give me 400 to all stats. but the thing with brandy is that if the filling is under 50 you can take a double shot there for boosting my mind stats to plus 800

you mite also want to use canapes these boost you secondry mind stats. i cant remember the stats on them atm sorry. but i know they last for about 10-15 min.

If you want to go mental and munch through some lairs (it's jolly good fun) go see your local friendly Master Doc and get buffed up to the eyeballs. That plus the good advice (above) about Vasarian brandy, and you will be one double-hard bast! Whack those specials to your heart's content...(try doing this unbuffed and you'll do more harm to yourself than your enemy can). Stick all your tasty treats on your toolbar for quick access.

Blue Milk is also a useful emergency mind-healer, but will require some room in your gut for more drink. BTW If you are a Zabrak by any chance, bind /equilibrium to a key (you can use it once an hour). If your mind is shot but your health or action are fine, it will instantly brinf your mind up to full steam.

As a sidenote, if you want to level up pretty quickly, get yourself into a big Sharnaff group from Coronet and go tank those bad boys - they tend not to run away too much, unlike many NPCs. If you do find your target legging it, go for a lunge move, or a /taunt.

When taking down baddies, stick to one damage type. I went up the Techniques tree first so I could go for the Mind with higher effectiveness. This is good for soloing, or when playing with Rifle backup. Otherwise, in big groups, go for Health for a fast take-down, as everybody else will more than likely be going for this bar too.

hope some of this helps...feel free to set me straight on anything if you've got more cunning plans

As a general rule i only use two types of food/drink. Vasarian Brandy and Ahrisa. As the guys above have stated Brandy is something of a must however they have overlooked the important stats of the brandy. Firstly, it must be 50 filling or below. This allows you to double dose the brandy making your mind stats sky high. Secondly, and no less importantly, the duration on the brandy must be 44mins+ (you may get away with a little less duration but atm i am using 45 and 1/2 min stuff) so that you can continuously double dose the brandy. This avoids the annoying downtime which always seems to occur when you are right in the middle of fighting an elder/krayt/kimo and it will likely play a big part in getting you killed.

Secondly onto Ahrisa. This stuff is highly underrated as most people tend to buy canape when this stuff imho is far superior. It is a food (so you can eat this after having double-dosed on brandy) that adds 400 or so onto your focus for around the same duration as brandy. I also double dose this (Im trandoshan so my mind is my weakpoint) and it means i have no mind cost at all when spamming specials with any weapon (which is often a big problem when using a scythe).

Really i find this to be a great food/drink combo as the person a swordsman damages most when fighting tends to be himself and unlike your other stats you cant heal your mind.

I also keep a muon handy for the occassional emergency (like when you dont realise your armour is fecked ).

I keep a well-stocked backpack, here's what I carry:

be-enhanced brandy, +403 for 40 mins (this is about as good as it gets in terms of high buff+length of buff for brandy on my server)

be-enhanced canapes, +719 focus/willpower for 11 mins

synthsteak, 43% damage reduction for 30 attacks

smugglers delight, 95% reduction in spice down time. this makes neutron pixie downers less than 10 seconds!

citros snow cake, 40 accuracy, 20 mins

thakitillo, +96 def vs. knockdown for 11 mins. great for fighting enraged rancors

vercupti, +1200 health/action/mind for 8 mins

I don't actually use all of it all of the time. You have to learn what you need when you need it. Planning ahead is useful too. Smugglers Delight has 26 filling but can be used up to an hour before you use the spice. So if I know I'm going to be using a spce within an hour, I'll eat that right away. etc..

There are a ton of other foods out there tho, I seem to always find one I had never heard about before when browsing chef vendors! Like did you know there is a food that increases surveying? lol I didn't.

I focus on the mind with food and drink. Let Doc buffs take care of the rest.

Do any of the swordsman/doctors out know if Havla helps with faster healing in combat? If it does, it could be very helpful for getting rid of states and emergency healing.

Slim Vargo, Corbantis
