any weapon in any proffession has HAM costs, so the answer is yes, it is suposed to stop ppl from using a special like 40 times ina row, but, since everyone buffs like no tomorrow then the HAM costs are pointless.

I know it takes ham to use specials, but what I'm asking is do swordsman weapons take health as opposed to action and mind to use the specials?

No, the swords generally are more dependant on action, but are a lot more evenly spaced than the power hammer which requires bundles of health.
Of course if you're buffed, who cares ?

Buffs are too farking addictive. First thing I do when I log on is head back to Coronet to heal up and then get in the buff line. If I can't get any buffs, I go play Unreal Tournament. Yes, I'm that pathetic.
Add spices, stat food and skill food, and I'm a walking pharmacy with a hammer.

The advantage to MD/MHS is that I'm always at the front of the buff line

WarFerret, what's your entire spec? I'm brawler/MHS/soon-to-be-MCH, but I'm not very happy with my spec, but I can't decide what to give up.

i'd say give up MCH, I don't think MCH is anywhere near as valuable to a Melee template as it is to a Ranged template. MCH is so you have a tank for yourself so you can shoot in safety, but as an MHS you are already the tank.

I'm Master Doc, Master Heavy Swordsman and a little bit left over to stick in scout when I need to harvest or fight (1000 terrain negotiation goes a long way) or to switch over to Artisan when I need to do a spot of surveying for medical resources.
I buff for about 2500 on primaries, bit less on secondaries, wear 80% kinetic helmet/chest/legs and lighter armour on my arms which don't seem to get hit as much, use 400 str brandy and vagnerian canape or some old glazed glucose pate and keep a muon in my quickbar just in case. It's a very self reliant class, you need to buy stuff from chefs and smugglers, but since you're not dropping a fortune on buffs all the time you don't have a lot of other outgoings - ok, so you can't make the same income a crafting type can, but I make enough (without buffs, I don't buff for cash, I can't be bothered).
I find it rocks in PvE (I wasn't *quite* able to solo the Geno caves because I couldn't see my HAM and the Geno's tended to spawn a little too far away to switch to melee when they spawned - also the spawn at the cave entrance on Farstar is apparently bugged, we get about 20 of the things spawning at once, so it tends to get a little insane), could be better PvP, but you have to make sure you can get a wall between you and any ranged fighters if you're attacking somewhere otherwise you're in trouble - of course if you're fighting indoors like you are in most of the dungeons, the ranged fighters are at a disadvantage whereas swordsmen were designed for it.
Oh and another nice thing, Dizzy/KD is a waste of a move on us, it generally takes no more than 3 or 4 seconds to right yourself - if they dizzy you but the KD doesn't work then you just clear it with a state pack and keep on swinging, if on the odd occasion you do end up dizzy and on the floor spam a /stand;/healstate dizzy self; macro and you'll be back up in a few attempts usually.

As has been stated, all weapons have HAM costs on all three pools. PH hits health harder than the other two pools, but most of our other weapons hit Action hardest.
That is why I buy Powerups that reduce health costs for my PH and Powerups that reduce Action costs for my other 2H weapons.
