Thread: Fencers Get Dual-Wielding
Qoute
*sigh*
Still can't back yourself up can you?
I'm only suggesting that since you obviously is so very into a fighting style which isn't a Heavy Swordsman fighting style, then you obviously should get the class with the fighting style, i.e. fencer, and stop trying to change ours. Heavy Swordsmen, wield two-handed weapons, weapons which requires two hands to wield one weapon. And it would be ridiculues to all of a sudden gives us one handed weapons to dualwield as well, and by that creating confusion about what class we really are.
If you wear two light weapons, it does not make it "heavy".
I think the devs needs to specify this a little better, as some people clearly has a problem in seing it.
Change the title to Heavy Swordsman, and two-haded to two-armed.
The japanese did have a "two sword" style used by some samurai. It was called Niten(sp) and pioneered by Murimoto Musashi (sp). He was the first to utilize both swords at one time, though it did spread a bit after he began using it. However, most of the samurai considered it dishonorable and the act of a coward. He justified his actions by the belief that the samurai's job was to defend his lord and he could do that much better weilding two swords instead of just one. The practice never truly caught on though and the standard two-hands on the single katana style was the most predominate.
Also, while it would be nice to have two weapons. I do have to agree with many of the other posters here. The majority of our weapons are either very heavy or very long. These almost require two hands to weild properly for the best damage and speed.
I would much rather they give us a more versatile supply of weapons and a few more special attacks as opposed to having us try to fight while using (2) long bladed weapons or the equivalent to (2) 15 to 20 pound sledgehammers. We'd have to all be the size of wookies or tradoshan then.

PS - my appologies for any spellingerrors or historical inaccuracies. I am pulling thisfrom information that I haven't referenced in a very long time.

Compared to a foil/epee - the single handed lightweight blade of a fencer, a katana, cleaver and scythe, being 2 handed swords are all considerably heavier, but that's not the point;
All of our weapons require 2 hands to wield effectively, either because they're heavy, in the case of the power hammer, or because they're long, in the case of the scythe and curved sword.
This is why we can't be dual wielders, we don't have 4 hands.
Many Samurai dual weilded Katanas, most used the combination of Katana/Wakisashi but the most popular Samurai in Miyamoto Musashi made the dual weild popular with a style called Two Heavens, which uses Dual Katana Swords.
Don't get me wrong I am not begging to dual weild Power hammers like some Barbarian from Diablo 2 but I just felt the need to correct your assessment on who uses dual weapons. Classes or even the names of the classes have little to do with whether a dual weild makes sense or not. From experience with actual swords I can sum it up to strength, skill and confidence with your weapon. The thing I wonder is if they will motion capture a dual weilding actor for the skill or will fencers still do the same moves just holding another weapon, if it's the latter then they can keep it.
I'm sure before Episode 2 alot of you same guys that continue to compare us with Riflemen would think it stupid to dual-weild light-sabers too but Anakin made it look believable. Look a most other MMORPGs, especially the fantasy ones and see who and what type of weapons get Dual weilds. Simply put, the decision for who gets it was not scientific, they simply chose two classes and announced it.
Btw. I have never seen anyone dual weilding an Epee, Foil or Rapier. The term fencer should probably be changed if we're gonna be literal.
I think fencers should get dual wield because in real life i have trained to duel wield batons that look like stun batons and small swords such as the rantok.
I also think Swordsman should be able to duel wield if they are a wookie or may even one or the lizards. Because those are the only races that i can imagine holding two huge swords or hammers. I mean our two handed curved sword is just as big as a bothan.
And for that samuri who duel wielded katanas wich i know of very well his swords were less than 3feet long.

And about backing myself up, I don't need to. Others have.
Basically like someone else said, no class in this game makes sense for dual-wielding. Then again...
Dual-wielding may NEVER happen now...since the Combat Revamp has been delayed until who knows when.
Heh,no, they have just pointed out that some samurais SOMETIMES used two swords, but usually from what I have seen in Kendo and Ninjutsu sword styles and their history, they used one sword with two arms, because that clearcy gave them a lot more swingpower and their swords were light enough for the swinger to be able to get the sword back in defense position. Furthermore, you of all seem to be the one who wants dual-wield the most (or the only one who has expressed it this much), would be fun to see how it would fit with the current Heavy Swordsman class which is based on two-handed heavy melee weapons.
Other thing to this, is that a stroke with one arm on a heavy sword while wielding a second will render the stroke more or less useless against armor comparable to composite, ubese or chitin nor is a light two weapons swordsstyle any like a Heavy Swordsman should have.
Well, it might be correct that no class suits it. Fencer I think might, but it is kind of a one-handed class, though it fit a hell of a lot better than us, as we use heavy weapons which only robots or big giant fouramred marsmen could dualwield, while the fencer use light weapons which actually are dualwieldable.
Has anyone else read the comic book series based on the emperor's personal guards and how they were trained. If you have then you have seen the double-bladedvibro-blades that they used, which would be my personal favorite in game if it were available... I don't think we need two heavy weapons to be effective in combat, but it wouldn't look too bad. I would rather have a couple heavier double-ended weapons like what I mentioned.
