Thread: Defensive Lines?

Ok, been playing for over 2 months now and I see I still qualify for being noob. I was working on carbineer but I have noticed that is bites in PvE. So I made the switch Big sharp Swords. Ok now the Question. Will having defensive skills from another profession actually help while i am weilding a big sharp sword?

To the best of my knowlage. The state defences, such as def vs Dizzy or Def vs KD will work and stack. Also your Melee def and ranged def stack to a point, but they have a hard cap. I'm unsure what exactly it is, I think it may be around +125. The special defences for each weapon ex. Dodge for fencer and pistol only work if you are holding one of those weapons. You can stack the same mod though. So you can use the Counter Attack mods from both Swordsman and Carbanieer and stack those for like +180 counter attack. That will work as long as you're holding a carbine or a 2h weapon.

Melee/Ranged Def...States Def (dizzy, stun, kd, etc) all cap at +125
Special Def such as Counter-Attack, Dodge, Block also cap at +125
not sure if you can surpass with number with Attachments, and im pretty sure you can with the use of food.

In another thread, someone wrote that while state def cap at +125, they may only be useful up to +90. Their reasoning is that since it is a % mod (ie, +80 means 80% possibility of the def working) and there is an inherent 10% chance of any state landing, that anything above +90 is wasted. Anyone able to confirm or deny this?
One of my friends has a def-stacker TKM template, with all his states around +90-+95, and he is almost never stuck with a state. I personally take this as practical proof, but I would love to hear others opinions.

So from what I can draw from your relpy is that on certain Mods like general combat mods ie. counterattack you can recieve the mod bonus from other proffessions. Well that is cool. thanks for the info.

Everything hard caps at 125. Melee things will stack as long as they are not 1h or 2h specific. State defenses are worthless above 90 for the reasons stated by a previous poster. There's always a 10% chance of a state sticking to prevent God Mode.
That's why alot of fencers pick up master pistoleer to get their high defenses and dodge. Then grab some tka for it's state defenses.
Thank god for stun or we would never be able to hit them at all, since stun sets all their secondary defenses to 0.
