One word. Traps.

The Trap branch of the Scout tree gives you what are essentially hand grenades that only work on animals. As a novice Scout you get the Wire Mesh trap that eliminates an animals melee defense and the L.Dart which takes a small bite out of the animals Mind and Action pools and leaves them Dizzy. Once you qualify for Level 1 you also get a trap called the Sharp Bone Spur that can take as much as half an animals mind pool in a single hit. That would seem to complement the Swordsman Mind pool special attacks quite nicely.

A couple of words of warning though. You can only have one trap of a given type affecting an animal at a given time (ie you canuse a L.Dart and a Wire Mesh trap on a animal but not two L.Darts)and it takes about 30 seconds before the effects wear off. Also no trap will completely kill an animal but can take it down to one point left in that pool.

Aside from traps, Scout will let you harvest hides and bones you can trade to craftsmen to help get your armor (left click on the body and, in addition to the Loot option,Scouts get the Harvest option)and you can also make camps where medics can heal your mind and action wounds and entertainers can heal your mind pool wounds (but not Battle Fatique which can only be healed in a Cantina or hotel back in town).

Harvesting also gives a source of income if you don't want to keep the stuff. Sell it on the bazaar, make money from dead animal bits.

Or you can horde it and trade it all to an armor smith for a big fat discount on a suit of bone armor if the smith is nice that is.

The combo is working well for me, although I've yet to make even novice swordsman. Just got the 3rd block in the brawler tree today.
