Thread: Newbie Swordsman
Just sharing my new experience on the way to becomming a swordsman.
I decided upon Rodian due to the combat bonuses they receive. I had looked at Zabrak for toughness, Wookie for increased base damage and human just because. Well the first thing I can suggest as a novice brawler is to dump your dagger and buy and axe with the 250 credits your given. Secondly, I would train scout and get at least the first Exploration skill to negotiate hills better.
Whack lotsa butterflies, gurburs low stuff with your axe and use powerups and food, I like jawa beer personally. I'm on Corellia btw. Obviously, if you can get someone to train you that's better than spending the money for training. I have to sayI started with an unarmed Twilek and couldn't complete a mission to save my life. Having the Rodian with an axe I have complete all low levels and most high level missions. There is a difference imo although the missions may have the same "rating"; on Corellia I can easily complete missions destoying gurburs, dunis but lairs with rats and higher are much tougher. My suggestionis to always take the easist mission. The difference of a couple of hundred credits isn't worth the time in trying to complete tougher missions.
This brings me to my next point. I could only successfully utilize a sword once I had mastered 2 handed and was on my way to novice swordsman. So don't by a sword with the idea that your going to use it to it's fullest potential until then. I also bought my sword in a player store as these weapons were more than 3000 credits. The bazzar wouldn't let me sell items for over 3000 credits, ergo buy with player characters. Now here's my point. Once you get the spinning strike that allows you to hit multiple opponents what would you rather do (a) attack creatures that con white and that may take your over all effectiveness to 50% and receive 240 or so xp or (b) attack creatures that con blue and receive 60-150 xp per creature and kill multiples at a time.
If you attack a lair of low level critters they will attack you. Spinning strike will take them out quickly, without you having to run after every critter ( much more time effective). Your overall health will be minimally effected and you can go to the next nest, pile 'o rocks, lair or whatever for faster xp.
Finally, I try not to attack humanoid characters due to faction points and future aggro. Since I can complete low level misions I really don't need any items that a low level humanoid would drop,,as I have all that i need from the money garnered from the missions.
This is just a style of play I'm sure there are many others..
