Thread: Why are we called swordsman?

So i have a question. Why are we called swordsman when we have only like 3 swords? No really half the weapons we use are not swordsman and the swords we do have aren't the best.

This question has been asked a few hundred times since beta.
Sony has answered this question themselves, in the last few patches of the game. They simply don't give a damn about our class.

We aren't swordsmen.
We are HEAVY swordsmen. We use the big bladed weapons (powerhammer being an exception, but it is the same combat style, so it still works). We have the Heavy Axe (sucks, hee), Two Handed Axe (nice big axe, good for PvP), Two Handed Curved Sword (Verra nice up till you hit the speed cap, I think the graphics for them should be longer, don't look much bigger than some fencer weaps), the 2h Cleaver (sweet looking, not very practical till you hit the speed cap with it, then it has better DPS with lower HAM), and the Scythe (it may look funky, but it is bladed and therefor a sword, its heavy too, so not a fencer item). Again, the powerhammer fits the fighting style. This isn't the "block and dodge and spin and twirl and cut them a little bit at a time" kinda swordfighting, this is the "Boom, crush, chop, you dead now" kinda swordfighting.
Also, I think fencers should be called knife fighters, since that is basically all they get are knives (1h curved is the curved equivalent of a knife, stun baton and gaffi sticks follow the knife fighting style). Now, if they got Rapiers I think it would be cool to call them fencers, but they aren't fencers right now, they are knife fighters.
Remember, its the fighting STYLE not the actual weapons themselves. HEAVY swordsman, not just swordsman.

Fencers in the technical sence use the point of the sword to kill where as a swordsmanwould use the blade to kill, hacking or slashing vs. stabing.
The names fit but SOE's weapons dont
The whole thing is boggus and SOE is dumb, a fencer would never touch a gadifif batton its more of a swordsman weapon as it strikes with the edge, however it is a club plain and simple and its insane that its the most powerful "fencer" weapon.
For gods sake simply looking in the encyclopidia thwy would have saber, foil, and rapier as fencer weapons then one hand curved sword and a knife would be great, then the stun batton for an uber weapon... but a club!!!!!!! MAKES ME SICK that is not a fencer weapon
Now for us swordsman they did much better on weapons, but they need to make them all useful instead of just the PH and 2hand sword
And why did they forget vibro blades for swordsmen and pikemen?

Vibro Axe for swordsman, forgot that one, it sucks, hehe.
Pikemen get their long vibro axe, which fits them for the vibro weap.
I do agree that we need a nice big vibro sword. Should be huge and heavy AP, since the vibro mechanism combined with the sheer weight would let it chop though any armor.

Also, dual bladed vibro swords for pikemen would be sweet to see, you know, like in KOTOR.
And as for making them all useful, with the combat changes, weapon changes (they are adding more weaps for each level and making them all useful for more specific situations), and profession changes, which they said they are all lumping into publish 8, all of your dreams should be coming true.
Sounds pretty cool to me, at least the profession and weapons changes, I dont' know that I'm much gonna like the combat changes.
