Ive heard a lot of discussion about the current speed cap. I use a 2.1 70-250 2handed curved right now and was wondering if going below 2.1 on speed would have diminished returns.

Also how does meele 2 handed speed factor in from the Techniques tree. I mean if we're using a 2.0 weapon and the speed cap is 2.0 will getting increases meele 2handed speed really effect anything at all?.

I believe all weapons cap at 1.0 speed accross the board. Now whether or not you can hit that is another matter.

From what I understand, each point of speed you get as a skill (in our case Two Hand Speed) is a % off whatever the base speed of your weapon is.

So at Master Swords you have +75 Two Hand Speed, which would be 75% off what your weapon shows.

In the case of a 3.0 second sword, you'd swing it at 0.75 except that the cap means it'll be 1.0

This is why having a weapon faster than 4.0 is pointless at Master Swordsman.

Again, this is from what I understand, and I could be wrong.

good question...I am not sure about the cap..but I sell melee weapons on the Kettemoor server and currently my 2 handeds are at 2.4 or 2.5 speed...unsliced... I have been able to get my personal swords down to 1.8 and now a 1.7 after slicing...

I would like to learn more about the caps and how our speed bonuses from skill level work with the weapon speed...???

I don't have any information to offer as for as the modifiers go, but I did do some timing of my weapons. I am a master heavy swordsman but am NOT a master brawler. Using a 5.4 speed power hammer I would swing in approximately 4 second intervals using /melee2hHit3. If I put a speed power up on it bringing the speed down to 4.5 I would swing in approximately 3 second intervals using the same special move.

This leads me to believe, though untested, a 2.5 speed weapon at master lvl would be around the 1 second cap even using /melee2hHit3. Lots of two-handed curved swords at 2.5 speed so I plan on picking up some more of them and hoping for good dmg slices. If anyone can confirm one way or the other about my theory I would appreciate it. I'll post further once I've tested myself.

this 4.0 weapon speed "soft" cap is only applicable for normal hits. Remember that time multipliers for special moves will increase the duration of such attacks. Hence, a faster weapon will still yield better results if you frequently use special attacks. Basically, because these special moves may double or triple the time per hit, you will still benefit from a faster weapon.

Of course, spamming these special attacks will also kill your HAM =)
