Thread: So what now ?

...so Santa didnt pay us a visit this time.

Well....let's say he left us a couple of smaller goodies on the doorstep...unfortunately nothing really from our list...and apparently nothing from his list either (if he didn't mistaken it for last years)

To be clear:

I've read your posts and will try to find out when and why certain things have been announced, not announced, implemented or not implemented.

On a more wider scale this is how i see things and what i plan doing in the next couple of weeks:

Anew Sr. Producer, going by the name of "JustG", joined the SWG team and introduced himself on the boards yesterday and on monday the new assistant community manager will be thrown into the boardpit. In addition to that our Designer, Dan, is back from his vacation.

So what does this mean ?

I hope busy days for me from next week on (gawd..did i just say that ? )

What am i going to do ?

Well....i'm not a 100% sure yet about the modus operandi, i guess alot depends on how working with our designer and the new assistant community manager will be looking like, what their approaches and ideas are.

As a first step i thought about creating a big list including all our issues. I will try being short and precise on the issues, and most importantly, put them into aclear question format. I will post this list here and we can discuss it before i will post it on the Correspondents Board for our designer to read. Expect that to happen by the middle of next week.

Alternatively i could also create a stickingthread where YOU could post those issues / questions. I would have to kindly ask you though in that case to stick strictly to the format and aim of that thread. No ranting, no hijacking, but a clear and as short as possible description of the issue ending with a question, like "When / How / Why has this been done ?", "When can we expect this ?" etc......i hope you get the picture.

Please let me know what you prefer...(or if you have an idea for a more efficient format, considering the given "tools".)

From there we will have to see what happens and what kind of response we will get. I'm going to trymakin my work on the correspondents board as transparent to you as i possibly can and am allowed to.

If we are lucky we will get answers and will hopefully be able to go on working from there. Some answers will hopefully solve some issues, others will hopefully recquire and allow more in-depth work. And that is the moment where your creativity and ideas will be coming in once again.

At present stage i can't promise you anything, but in my opinion there has never been a better moment to let the past be past and give the Devs a last chance to get the machine finally running and i guess i don't have to tell you who the most sceptical and careful of us is by now when it comes to promises, empty words and Dev communication in general.........the very same who will throw the door and be definitely out of here if things don't start working as promised or drawn on the board.

There will certainly be no one day wonders, and our designer will probably still need to get up to date with things for a couple of days, while the assistant community manager will have to start working himself into the new job, but i have reasons to believe that Santa will at least be knocking at our door with the next big patch.

To conclude this, in lack ofmore recent material,i would like to point you once moreto the following threads:

I can't help it but i somehowi havea feeling that we will still be confronted with important changes, in general and in detail, in the near future. It's basically the following small paragraph by our designer, which you can find in those threads, which gets me to believe that:

All melee professions would stand to have a new melee baseline defined, with new combo abilities, defensive bonuses, and potentially a range increase. Once we get this baseline defined, we can start addressing specific move/weapon problems.

...let's hope we will find out more soon.

Have a nice weekend

I am not a swordsman but i believe melee classes need a baseline like you say, but I can tell you this and I hope you will address this.

1.) Alot of meleers feel neglected and are completely frustrated with the past decisions made concerning the melee classes.

2.) With every patch people actually "Expect" to get nurfed now and it is really getting out of hand.

3.) More and more people are cancelling or threatening to cancel because the game is lacking in content and the only thing we get with every patch are nerfs and hidden nerfs.

4.)We dont feel we have anything to look foreward too because the past behavior of the devs has dictated their future decisions..ie..more nerfs.

5.) Everytime the devs say they want to make things more interesting they mean nerfing something or making the game harder not adding content.

6.) More and more people are saying the game is getting less enjoyable with every "fix" (Nerf).

when this game feels less like a game and more like a everyday job i'll quit, for now i'm having alittle fun. i just finished the act 2 quest yesterday and all i have to say is... **edit** that was ez..

this game in my mind was never ment to be like everquest. i personally hated the Uo style of play where you can max your character out in like 3 days. then the game becomes all pvp.

Final fantasy 11 sounds nice... wow looks good too..

this game needs to go away from the player run economy and become more about the fat loot

Part of me wants to throw down everything I think would make this Class fun and enjoyable again. That would be a long long list that would problably lose their interest.

Another part of me says, well if you leave anything out, it'll be a long... long... long... time before they pay attention again... The format I think should be as simple as we can get it so as not to confuse issues.

Weapons..

Ham Costs...

Range...

No defined role...

Nerfed damage...

There are many others as everyone knows. The format that was submitted last time was clear and trunicated. I'm at a loss after the latest patch.

I don't get why each patch is a nerf-fest when we have nothing to be nerfed at all!! What's there to nerf when we got nothing to begin with. This new patch with the additional 75% pvp reduction is like a godsend. We no longer die in one hit to LLC shots and it's a bug? For christ's sake, are they **edit**en using their heads? I mean ok, if they're saying that melee should be the worst professions in the game, then why the hell are they buffing TKAs every goddamn patch? I don't get this, why even HAVE swordsman in the game when all we are, are some goddamn last-minute addon to attract fans of medieval themes? Why not just toss us out the window and get this **edit** thing over with?

Xeonus: that little paragraph wasn't written or thought out by me but by Dan, the combat Designer at SOE

Sorry if i wasn't clear enough.

How about you poll the swordsmen about what they want, and then make a sticky post with both yours and our main problems with the class. Then lock that post (if possible) so that only you can post on it, and then you can simply add more issues onto the post when they arrive. Having all our issues in one place will make it easier for people to find them, and easier to compile lists for the devs.

I don't know if this is where you'd like us to post our suggestions, but I'm going to go ahead and type them out so that I can copy and paste it later if needed.

One of the biggest problems of melee is that we need more defense, in PvE and PvP. The devs "tank" ability will be helpful in PvE - but I don't think so much for PvP.

1) All melee classes need more range and melee defense in their trees (even TKA - but just a little). Specifically more range defense. This will help us live longer in PvP, as well as allow us to close in on opponents who choose not to run!

2) All melee class (except TKA) need a bit more combat equilibrium, which would enable us to get up faster and get over posture changes and knockdowns. Any form of posture change is devistating for melee, since unlike ranged - we can't attack when kneeling.

3) Also, melee could use a bit more Status defense, though not much more

4) A major problem for melees in PvE AND PvP is people and NPC's running away from us, so we can't either finish them off or even attack 'em. Melee could use some more Terrain Negotiation in their advance tree lines (if Combat Medic can have some - why can't we?). Also, perhaps at the top of each of the 4 tears in a melee profession, we can get an increase in burst effectiveness and burst length - so we CAN run down people, but not all of them all the time

5) Swordman Specific: Give us a One Person Knockdown for crying out loud! Give one to the Fencer too! Replace one of our MANY sweeps with it.

6) Reduce HAM cost of sword moves (as stated in test patch notes)

7) Give us more Swords! Not Axes, Scythes, Hammers, but Swords darn it! We're swordsman!

8) Empty Finesse Box - Either put Mind Bleed 2 there or the Accuracy there.

That's all I can think of right now. Heck, if these happen, I'd be estatic! But lets not hold our breat...

Dang... would definitely suggest everyone read those two posts,as Gorecki pointed out above. Very eye opening.

However, having said that, I'll point out my "issues:"

1.) No real issue with not being able to take out a similarly power ranged weapon class (after all, I believe in the old cliche about how stupid it is to bring a knife to a gunfight), but still... aren't we supposed to be "tanks" in at least some fashion? At 2/4/0/2 in the swordsman profession, I still see no discernible difference between my survivability when fighting a MOB as opposed to a pistoleer. As I understand it, I'm a MELEE character, and he's a SHOOTER. Could we see some kind of differentiation between the two- i.e., higher defensive abilities for the melee types?

2.) As stated in too many other areas to mention, each of these patches IS becoming a nerf-fest. I'm probably as Pollyanna as they come, and usually tend to overlook a lot of stuff in-game before I post, but I've gotten to the point of dreading each patch. Just as I naively hope for some new content with each patch, I also have the inevitable dread of "What are they going to screw up now?" I AM sorry for pointing this out, truthfully, but the other guy who mentioned the constant nerfing had a good point. Instead of giving us everything at once and then taking it away, piece by piece, is it possible the devs could instead give us a little to start with, and then add to it? Or, god forbid, fix certain classes by adding capabilities, instead of by taking away capabilities from other classes?

You know, I realize that I'm seriously at a disadvantage as a swordsman and that's there's no way I can compete in a PvP fight. I also realize that I'm not supposed to be able to hang with the TKAs (although I'm 3-2 in duels with them, so far).

However, I'm having a really fun time with this class. Just wanted to say that.

Still, I've been killing MOBs with the sword and switching to unarmed to kill the lairs, just so I can eventually get TKA as my backup class- something to help buff out the swordsman side.
