Thread: Should I become a Swordsman?

I am currently a bored little tiny Bothan character, looking for a dramatic change of pace in my life.

I have been Master Scout, Master Marksman, Master Weaponsmith and am now (slowly) heading up the Carbiner line and have gained the ability to kill myself faster with my HAM costs than you can believe.

Should I become a Swordsman/Doc as that is totally different and looks like good fun? Really I am wondering whether my race is any use at melee combat, being 1.35m tall as I am. Not exactly the most powerfully-built Bothan hehe.

My current attributes are:

Health 900

My current attributes are:

Health 900 Str 400 Con 400

Action 1000 Quick 650 Stam 500

Mind 800 Focus 400 Will 350

but I can rearrange all of these of course

Thanks for any tips/suggestions

I forgot to mention, I am NOT interested in any form of PvP, so am not bothered if Riflemen/TKA etc would beat me into a pulp.

I'm working no the swordsman/doctor build myself and so far am quite pleased with it. I was working on a pistoleer\smuggler earlier...but this one is so much fun.

Ok...I'll bite :-)

I recently picked up master brawler and then decided to do swordsman. This combo is absolutely lethal in PvE (and in PvP really). Having Doctor is nice, but is a buff doc really hard to find? I have not had a hard time finding one so I decided to instead pick up master brawler and I am glad I did. The amount of damage I can dish at as well as take as a master brawler and 0/2/0/2 swordsman is quite incredible. If you really want the best PvE combo, I would highly recommend master brawler instead of doctor...my opinion anyhow.

Hi, I've only recently started Swordsman, I dropped master commando to do it (re-rolled and everything), and to be honest, I haven't looked back since.

You have to pay more attention to a fight as a Swordsman, you can't just burn it, then run around like an idiot 'till it falls over dead, but you get so much more satisfaction from killing things with a great big sword!

Your Bothan build should be fine, especially if you stick with a 2-H Curved Sword, because it's an Action-centric weapon, so your high quickness/stamina will serve you well. Your low (ish) Strength and Constitution may be tricky if you want to use a power hammer, but it just means you'd have to be more conservative with your specials.

I'd say go for it, Melee combat is loads of fun, and you can't deny that the "Blade Trails" you get as you swing your sword around look the coolest!

My only suggestion is that when you start out at novice brawler with your heavy axe, do it somewhere where no-one can see you, because that weapon is just embarrassing! Stick with it till you get the 2-H curved sword, and you'll never look back!

I'm taking Doctor to go with Swordsman, mainly because I haven't played a doc yet, and I fancy something different, but also because it means I can buff myself and my friends for extended hunting

Go on, do it, you know you want to

Right I am heading off to become the smallest Swordsman in history. I have started to migrate my stats to the following:

Health 800 Str 500 Con 300

Action 700 Quick 600 Stamina 400

Mind 1000 Focus 600 Will 500

Also have trained Novice Medic ready for the Doctor route as I have never tried that either, so we are matched there hehe.

Thanks for the advice, I am off to bash my enemies to pieces

Cool, I'm sure you won't be dissapointed!

On a slightly off topic note, go buy yourself a medical droid and a bunch of good Health & Action stims, and sit in the coronet starport, you'll get that Medic XP faster than you can buy stims
