Thread: Rifle Melee Defense Bugged?

i think its the 40 melee defense thats the problem. (double our melee defense??)


stack that with fencer and tk and their ranged/melee defense gets close to 200.


swordsman have an accuracy of 130


they had that 40 because of the 2.5 damage mod - which was then taken out.


so now when you go to hit a riflemen its:


-miss

-miss

-miss

-miss


don't even try to kill a riflemen with a powerhammer....


not to mention the insane accuracy on an unhealabe pool and an elite weapon with half the ham cost of a PH.

if you really wanna test it go PVP for a bit.


riflemen will hit us for 400 450 500 with an ion rifle to the head and never miss


we miss 70 percent of the time and when we do its not that much after their armor negates our dmg.

Well this test showed a definite defense advantage holding a rifle, and involved no melee defense. I was defending better while holding the rifle and I had 0 melee defense and no rifle skills.

So whereas the defense increase for rifleman is big, it's not really related here.

I'm a Master Rifleman/TKM. Holding a rifle I get hit a lot less then without it. Interestingly, if I get hit with blind while using my rifle I start getting hit more then I do when Igo unarmed. There is definitely something messed up in the calculations.

A friend of mine isa TKM and is working on rifle exp. He saysbaz nitches hit him less often when he holds the T21than when fighting unarmed.

Hey,
I just wanted to bring up something that I've been working on. For a while there have been some concerns about rifle melee defense. A while back the damage multipliers against targets with rifles were removed and were replaced by accuracy bonuses. At least this was the intended change. At the time (and now) I was rather against this change. Accuracy is too much like an on/off button. Your typical melee character against your typical non-stacking rifleman is going to hit most of the time anyway.

Well, anyway, I was spurred on by some comments in the Pikemen foru to push for some information here. I also did some testing of my own. I used my weaponsmith character that has no defensive skill mods and let someone with no offensive skills attack me with a vibroknuckler (for high speed and low damage). I tallied 100 attacks worth of hits and misses.

The results:

While Holding a Pistol: 38 / 100 hits
While Holding a Rifle: 15 / 100 hits

Thanks go to Zaw ZeroEight for helping me test this. 100 tests is not 100% ironclad, but I think it is certainly statistically significant enough to very strongly suspect there are some problems here so I'm going to push harder for some more information on whether this is bugged or not.

Anyway, comments, questions? Any experiences of your own?

Yeah, well I've been hearing about this for a while but I had not seen any conclusive tests or any big movement to get it fixed.

*shrug*

Hey Gabe, glad your addressing this. Anyways its pretty well known that there is a bug that allows people with rifle or holding a rifle to have extremely high melee defense. I have read in several threadswhere people post tactics on fighting NPC's and they will say, stack 2 bleeds trhen equip a rifle. Crazy as it may seem there is quite a noticeable difference.
