Thread: Need some help with setup...
I was a BH with Pistoleer 4/0/4/0.
I am not a hologrinder, so I am not changing due to holo.
I just got tired of not having any def bonuses, and watching TKA's do PVE twice as fast as me, having spent 1/3 of the skillpoints.
Anyways, enough complaining.. on to the next challenge.
I want to build up a new profession... I am going to be master swordsman, but I dont know how to put the rest of the skills.
I am more interested in being able to do krayts/kimos/geo caves than PVP, although if I can get some PVP skills it would be nice.
I was going to go for a master swordsman/master brawler/pistoleer 0043/fencer 4443 (I think that was it) combo, but then I read that the def bonuses from pistoleer dont stack unless I'm using a one-handed weapon.
Anyways, question is, how should I put my skills to become a good PVE character?
Add rifleman and medicto swordsman and you get two very good PvE professions which both hit mind. This template is very good in PvP also. If you hunt alone swordsman/doctor is also great. Buff yourself, keep poisons and diseases away and heal states like dizzy etc. and you can tank almost anything in the game alone.

Do you think this is better than going for riflemen?
I can add that the main reason I chose Swordsman above TKA is the ability to deal blastdamage.
Relying on just one type of damage is no good... there is bound to be more and more things with more res...
This is the reason I really liked having pistoleer in there... it gives me the ability to deal 4 more types of damage...
I would like a really good template, as I don't hologrind, and whatever I come up with is something I intend to keep...
Thanks!
Master Swords
Master Brawler
TKA 4303
Fencer 3440
Pikeman 0040
Def vs KD +115
Def vs Posture Change +110
Def vs Blind +80
Def vs Dizzy +85
Def vs Stun +85
Melee Def Capped +125
Ranged Def +114
Just made this up...
-Speed, accuracy, and CoB beefed up with MBrawler
-All the benefits of TKA Meditate
-Nice Primary and State Defenses
The main weakness is ranged attack (being kited), no ranged attack (no ranged mitigation) and no stim Bs. I am going to try this out and see how it will work. I usually hunt with a ranged player who can drop a heal on me every once in a while.
I can live without the heals because if I'm hunting something big I'll have someone who can heal with me.
However, I would like some ranged def.
Master Swords
Master Brawler
TKA 4303
Fencer 3440
Pikeman 0040
From this, I am thinking that pikeman can be dropped (lowers the mod-defs a little).. is there any way those skillpoints could be used to get some ranged mitigation?
If not, is there anything else I can drop in order to get some ranged defs?
BTW: I can live without the heals if I use the TKA mediate, so I'm basically swapping medic for TKA (as I said, hunting something big = doctor comes with)
Basically, I am definately doing master brawler / master swordsman .... and I like the TKA powerincrease / heal skills (mediate/FoW etc) ... so it would be nice to get that... question is how to use the rest... want to make a good character here who can solo almost everything, or atleast with a doc/cm behind...
If that is the case, fencer seems useless to me...
Master Brawler / Master Swordsman
Im thinking TKA 4304, for some mediate/powerboost, and some ranged/melee defs.
Then I'm thinking about putting up some riflemen skills (seems like a good suggestion)
I can put all remaining points in there...
this does seem like a good idea, so you can deal some different types of ranged damage... with some modifiers.
You can take away a fair amount of health from NS with a good rifle, some knockdown and some bleed.
Anyways, apart from master brawler / master swordsman, I dont have any real preferences.. any idea is welcome.. I'll look them all up and see what I think looks best in the end
Thanks for the help so far...
Anyways.. here it goes... this looks pretty good to me.. some nice defenses, good melee combat and decent ranged attacks... let me know what you think
Master Brawler
Master Swordsman
TKA 4304
Riflemen 4033
If I counted it right, that should be all skillpoints used... defenses aren't bad (I always run around in 80% armour anyways) and it gives me some nice ranged attacks...
Should be a good setup with the ability to attack almost anything, no matter what res they have...
Any thoughts?

Very good if you PvP sometimes. I would probably drop some TKA defenses to get Master Rifleman, but that is just a matter of taste

i am a master swordsman and master rifleman, and only just got master brawler. i think the rifleman prof at master is fantastic because of the speed bonus you gain. this to me is neccessary for using a t21 effectively as they can be incredibly slow. i know a lot of people like dmg slice's on their weapons but i have always enjoyed speed slice, (if i can hit you 4 time in the time it takes you hit me once, who's gonna win) unfortunaely this combo has used all my skillpoints and i cannot take novice medic.
the good thing is tho this all hits the mind and with 2 brandy's and 1 canape, wearing full comp i have no mind costs. /spam conceal shot. ![]()

One more thing.. is there any point in doing fencer... do you not need to use a one-handed weapon to get the bonuses?

Keep in mind the following may all change in a few weeks and you may be back at the drawing board after the Combat Revamp like the rest of us.
The primary defenses (ranged and melee) will stack up to 125 with other profession primary defenses regardless of which weapon you choose. The Def vs type defenses will also stack the same way with no cap. The secondary defenses (dodge, counterattack, and block) will stack up to 125, however this is profession based i.e. if you are a fencer and have some dodge from pistols...using the fencer weapon will utilize the stacked dodge numbers from both fencer and pistols. But the block you have will not work until you equip a rifle.
From what I'm reading now, you want a ranged attack as well. Honestly..it would be better to Master rifles (if that is ranged you want) because rifles really shine due to it's huge boost and accuracy at master.
Several people are Master Swordsman/Master Rifles and have Mitigation 3 in both. I have a character with both as well. The main prob is weak primary and secondary defenses with only those 2. Therefore you'll have to beef them up with other professions or live with them.
If you seriously want a good all around template of Melee and Ranged with good defenses as well you may even consider this:
Master Rifles
Master Fencer
Pistols 0040
There are 32 points to spare to either put into medic/TKA med line/Scout1000&Medic
This template offers all the benefits of a Master Rifleman and Fencer. Pistols 0040 give you nice added defenses to an already hi defense template as well as boost dodge.
Good Luck...and have fun
I really want to keep Master Swordsman in there, and it seems like Master Brawler/Master Swordsman is almost a "must-do" combo.
You guys might be right about going all the way to Master Riflemen, probably a good idea.
That way, I will get some nice ranged and melee attacks and defs... combined with some different types of damage.
As I said, if I am going to hunt something big, I will have a doc/cm with me, so I am not worried about getting healed (and I have a 8K HAM gurreck that can tank for me, non CH... just keep throwing heals at it).
I would have liked to get the TK powerboost/FoW/mediate ... but I guess I can live without it.
Considering I was BH with pistoleer 4/0/4/0 and did well by myself, this should workout a lot better (I had no troubles killing jantas and mokks in like one to two min, and I could do most of the geo caves alone, and this is before the armourhole was fixed).
If you play it right, you can do some nice ranged damage, and then finish off with some melee attacks when the enemy gets closer.. and all attacks are aiming for the mindpool which is normally the lowest...
Sharp01: how is this combo working out for you? Have you tried doing something like geocaves/NS? I'd be very interested in hearing your comments as you seem to have the combo I am going for
