Thread: A couple questions about swordsman

Hey, I'm currently a Teras Kasi/Rifleman, but I'm looking for something new. I focus mainly on PvP.

Since Swordsman has mind attacks I figured it would compliment Rifleman the most, but there are a couple things that I'm worried about.

I have a friend who's a swordsman and the HAM costs just look brutal. Being that I have maxed Mind stats (I'm a Zabrak btw) I don't have that much to distribute to the other pools. I usually wander around into PvP, and don't rely on Doctor buffs. I am Overt 95% of the time. So I rely on food and stims to keep me alive and up to par with the buffed players.Mostly mind food, since TKA's HAM costs are really not that bad at all as long as I don't useVK's, and Rifleman specials really need the buffage.

So really my question is How bad are your guys'HAM costs?

And to any Rifleman/Swordsman -- How well does this combo work for you guys?

Thanks in advance

HAM costs are horrific without buffs. If you are gonna PvP without buffs I do not recommend Swordsman.

If you are not gonna use buffs I don't recommend PvP, not if you want to stand a chance against experienced PvPers anyway.

Tatooine Sunburn schematic dosnt even exist in SWG anymore

I was sensible enough to buy a bazillion crates of it before the Chef revamp though

Btw, luxleonheart, you'd do more mind damage at melee range with your T21 than you would with any Swordsman weapon.

Stick with TKA.

Lux I PvP all the time and I do fairly well even with a damaged template from Holo grinding. My only reliants these days is a set of sliced 72% Kinetic Ubese, skill-taped for speed and counter bonuses +8 on each skill / center of being and some anti-kd and anti-dizzy food stuffs. Teras Kasi stand no chance against a well-prepared Swordsman. The bonuses you get with extra speed, the food and a good powerhammer can make you into a deadly tank. Against the typical TKM who spam spitting Rawl and KD2 you can stand there and watch their mind drain to 0 then pet them on the head gently with your sword for the V, I used to be TKM so I know the mind costs those moves do. But to answer your main question, as a Sword PvPer I don't have ham issues. The hammer will drain health mostly and the 2h curved is wicked on your action but being a good swordsman means not spamming like most guys do because it will eat your ham up fast. Swordsman isn't given alot of defense and mods like TK or Fence, hell we only have 3 really good moves now that they have bleed nerfed our 4th but strategically we can hold our own if the armor support and food you use is good enough.

I'd say give it a try if you like a challenge, don't let the typical dabbler dissuade you, we don't get a 1.0 speed Spamming spitting rawl, we get a viscious strike that only dizzies as a bonus to it (not that great). Personally I say our specials are almost even in scale to the mind drain TKM gets from their specials. Never really had an issue with it, just MHO.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Swordsman looks fun, but I guess the HAM costs would do me some hurt. Maybe I will try it after the combat revamp.

I guess I'll stick with my current template for now.

One more question though. Arethe majorityof you using armor such as Ubese most of the time? Because I usually walk around without any armor, that is unless I am buffed then I wear my ST armor which is usually only for raids.

I am Master Rifleman/Master Swordsman/Master Brawler with Medic 0 1 0 0. The HAM costs for swords are comparable to what you have to deal with for Rifle, only they hit HA instead. However, they are managable. Tat Sunburn may be a good option for pure swordsman, but it is a drink, and you will likely be using your drink filling with brandies to boost mind for your Rifle. Buffed, the costs are not a problem, and even unbuffed, you can pop a Pixie and a couple of brandies and you are good to go. You just have to be more cautious because the boost to action with a Pixieis not as good, and the boost itself is not as good as a full buff. However, it is a decent substitute when used with caution and you can find foods to supplement the weaknesses.

Frankly, I love the tempate. For PvP, I mostly use Swordsman/Brawler as my fall back because my natural playing style is more oriented to Sniper. But when they get on you, switch to Powerhammer, Center, and continue with mind damage. One on one, I have even driven off a couple ofTKs after they dizzy/KDed me because I was buffed and armored, and they were not doing a lot of damage to me, but everytime I stood up, I would whack them in the head with the Hammer of Death before I fell back down.

For armor, I have a Krayt enhanced Composite helm, a Compostite Chest plate, and Composite boots. They are all sliced for encumbrances and the Chest Plate and Boots have Kinetic special protections. I recently added a full set of Ubese and I will either wear that, or wear the Ubese pants, bracers, and gloves with my composite pieces.

I can wear any configuration of those two sets without buffs, and when I am buffed, it takes a lot to bring me down. Not as much as a buff on set of full composite, but, on the other hand, the lower encumbrances give me an edge in doing less damage to myself no matter what weapon I use.
