I completed the Scythe quest last night, unbuffed and unscathed, except I lost my bike due to carelessness. I thought I would tell you what I did to complete it and get a thread going for others to describe how they did it.

First, as you can find elsewhere, there is an NPC in Mos Entha in long, narrow passage that kind of looks like an outdoor cafe. You talk to him, and he gives you a sob story and some missions. In the first two missions, you kill a couple of NPCs that are coming after him. The third mission is a simple delivery mission in which you returna scroll to get him off the hook. (I will not tell you the whole story, because it is kind of amusing to hear him describe it.).

When you complete the third mission, he gives you a treasuremap. If you have never seen one of these, they work like this. You read the map, and it will tell you that there is a treasure. You select the option to create a waypoint. It will activate a WP in your Datapad. You go to the WP, and, while standing basically in the WP, use the map again to do a Search. Another WP will appear nearby. Stand in that WP, and choose dig, and after a moment or two, a box will appear on the ground. Of course, something always spawns that guards the box as well. For a nomal treasure map, it is usually the pirates or thieves that buried it, and they are usually not difficult to deal with. You simply dispatch two or threeguards then open the box at your leisure to find out what is inside.

This map is no different, only the WP is in the Krayt Dragon Graveyard POI andthe "guard" for this box is a Canyon Krayt Dragon, but on the upside, the prize in the box is a schematic for the Scythe (a total of two can be made from it). So the issue is how to get the schematic without becoming Krayt bait.

I had heard of others digging up the treasure and then jumping on their bikes to draw the Krayt away before circling back to grab the treasure and scoot. I took it one step further and found that you could actually use the treasure map while you were still mounted on the bike. Ride your vehicle to the first WP, open the map, then choose Search. Ride over to the next WP, then open the map and choose dig. The Krayt and treasure box will spawn right next to you, so immediately ride away and draw the Krayt away from the box. Keep him close enough that he stays interested, but not close enough, obviously, to cause damage. Once you have gotten him far enough away, circle around and ride quickly back to the box, jump off the bike, and get the treasure, then hop back on the bike and leave before he can get back. (I do not believe you can open the box while riding. As you can see below, I did not get a chance to check.)

The mistake I made the first time was that I got too far of a lead on him. He eventually lost interest, and before I could circle back, he moved back to the box. I could have tried again, but I wanted him to stay with me longer, so I got off the bike, put a bleed on him with my rifle, then jumped back on and waited for him to aggro. The first bleed hit, and he did not aggro, oddly. So I waited, and that was my second mistake. When the second bleed hit, he aggroed, but he also warped, as Krayts often do. Fortunately, as critters tend to do when bleeding for some reason, he blamed my bike and attacked it, not me. When I saw the bike was disabled, I jumped off, and burst ran back up to the treasure. He apparently needed more iron in his diet because he stayed interested in my disabled bike long enough for me to grab the treasure and scoot.

So, I got in and out without a scratch, and it only cost me my bike. Not a bad trade.

Of course, if you take a crew with you, you get a predictable one-time spawn of a Canyon Krayt Dragon, and while your crew draws it off and keeps it busy, you can grab the schematic.

The only caveat is that some people have died trying to get the schematic out of the box, and ended up not completing the mission, so you will want to be careful no matter what you do. However, I have no reason to believe that, once you actually loot the box that you will not keep the schematic, so you should be able to join in the fight after that.
