area2 and area3 are the same? are you serious?

here is my homework. using a lame hammer powered up to 543 max damage, here are the hardest hits recorded:


spin2= 3006 damage

area2 = 3045, 2933, 2959, 2999, 2982, 3040

area3 = 3011


dividing out the standard damage multiplier of x1.86, I extract the followingmultipliers: spin2 = x2.976, area2 = 3.015, area3 = 2.981


Iwas surprised to see area2 hitting every bit as hard as area3, so I tested that one alot to make sure they weren't postured down when the biggest hits were recorded


anyway, those are the numbers.I think it's pretty apparentall three attacks are x3 damage

I didn't notice a dmg change when upgrading from Spin2 to Area3 either. My question is what is the speed multiplier and HAM cost for the attacks, for those of us still not at +25 speed yet.


Guess I'll go do some testing myself.

tested these over the weekend at the geo cave:


hit1 = x2 damage

hit2 = x3

hit3 = x4

headhit1 = x1.5

headhit2 = x2.5

headhit3 = x3.5

sweep2 = x2


and believe it or not:

spin2 = x3

area2 = x3

area3 = x3

good point-- damage is only part of the equation (and can be the smaller part). you need to know what the speed mods are as well, and to a lesser extent, the ham costs. for most of us, we're buffed to use specials anyway, so ham cost isn't as important.

please post speed values if you're not hitting the cap.

I believe the damage multipliers can be found in www.swgcenter.com.

However, I cannot verify if they are current or have ever been changed.

swgcenter's values are completely wrong in many cases. it's based of very old information

to do speed modifiers checks, you just need a larger sample size. spam 10-20 specials, and record how many seconds it took. since the game rounds at most to 1 sec, you'll get an accuracy of 5%-10% of the real value. much easier to calculate speed than damage, actually, because speed is based off a constant (the weapon speed) not a range (weapon damage).

The speed values seem like they'd be a bit harder to record, since it gets into the decimal places on seconds, I think.

update: tested all Swordsman specials for damage multipliers, confirming earlier results


I used each special manytimes, recordingthe hardest hit for each. I also kept testing until I saw several'confirming hits' that wereclose to themaximums, so I am confident thatthese multipliers are correct


numbers in parenthesis are the hardest hits recorded for each special. the test weapon was a heavy axe, 24-98 @ 6.5s

I worked on the time factors a little, but was not pleased with the inconsistant results I was getting with sample sizes of15-20 hits. if I try it again, it will be onemptied mission lairs where I can time 100+ specials and pin things down with more certainty
