Alright, I'm about halfway to Novice Swordsman and, man, is it ever slow! The main reason I feel is because last time I leveled a melee person, it was my trandoshan tka. Getting to Novice there was a cinch, I bought some armor and tossed it on and then went and killed stuff, getting buffs if I felt like it.
With Unarmed 4, I feel severely handicapped as a wookie. I love the stats, and the RPing element, just not the fact that I can't find any armor. Now, I got arm, leg, and body armor, 50% (50-54%), but can't find any of the leg armor. BUT the body is at ) condition (means it's non-repairable, right?), and so it only has 27% resist, accoding to it's description, since I got conned by not checking the cond. before buying...
Anyways, enough of my sad story. Any chance another Wookie Swordsman has a way I can be successful in my attempts at levelling? Or am i stuck with slaughtering Lesser PLains Bols until I get enough money to contact an armorsmith and get a suit of armor made especially for myself? Thanks for any help...
PS: I'm I the severe minority? Most people I see going pure crafter or pure fighter. Am I making it so I'm useless in PvE and PvP by going Armorsmith/Swordsman? Thanks...

i have a rodian, human and zabrak toon, done ever melee proffession and never used any armor to lvl what so ever..... except the very 1st time i did tkm (done it 4 times now) with buffs _ brandy and canape, if i can do it you can definatly , especially being a wookiee with extra base stat points....
for novice lvls i get buffed go to tat, if i have a master combat proffession, i pull missions with that proffessions weapons , then group with a pet..... if i dont i go to the krayt grave yard and get the noob lvls 3 thru novice in the krayt yard or by missions...
then at novice of any melee i have found gurks on lok to be the fastest grind for me.... 9 spawn per lair, never had a baby spawn on me, and gouped with a pet i can average 38k xp per mission,,,,
use your lowest proffession weapon to pull missions and you will find they spawn within 500 m usually, (like if you dont even have pistols 1 equip a pistol to pull gurk missions etc etc)
i just did fencer last week am a casual player and found after i picked up the speed line i was doing right around 1 mil xp per 3.5 hour buff like that... apporx 600k xp or so from novice per buff....
i ran out of an empty player city with the trainers i needed in it and had it done in no time
all this can be done without armor
goodluck

Any race would be handicapped without the armor.
Get the credits and get the armor. Im sure someone on Lowca is making it.
I am a Wookiee Master Brawler, TKM and MSwordsman.
I love it.
I have some Fencer left and the rest I sunk into Force Sensitive Skills ( just got tonite yeah!)
Being a wookiee is so not a handicap. Stand up Wook!

As to your question about combining crafter and melee, I am swordsman/architect at the moment and you will have no trouble in PvE, except for the top stuff like Krayt and NS Elders etc. there you would need some help.
Anything else stands no chance (buffed/brandy etc.), I'm not even speed capped yet just starting down that path.
Don't really PvP so can't answer that side, but from everything I read you might struggle a little for PvP. But then you could always provide the armor for your faction so they can kick the other side

I'm a Wookiee Swordsman. More or less have been since I started the game back in oct\nov. Back when there was no wookiee armor to begin with.
What are you using to level?
I'd recommend a nice curve sword or 2h Axe. The curve swords are fast. The 2h Axe is a little slower, but higher min damage and better accuracy mods. I usually stay on Tatooine until I get novice then head to Dant for Quenkers. About halfway through Swords I usually goto Endor and kill everything in sight. Usually dont have to worry about destroying someones mission out there. No one is around. Then again I always have medic so its a bit easier.

Mastered Swords with a doshan, sometimes wore Ubese (is there a somewhat affordable wookiee equivalent?), sometimes no armor, had lots of vercupti and brandy on hand, often had a quickness buff. Used hammer, cleaver and curved sword, mainly hammer. Did grinding on Talus going after Mutate Kahmurras, not a big cash payout but very nice XP. Uber armor not required.

I'm with Joesf on this one-
I've been a wookiee since the begining of the game and master sword since october- the 2hcurved sword is the best weapon you can get- maybe get some dmg power ups if you like but it was always my favorite and I STILL use them even at master sometimes (got some nice Rancors Teeth into some swords). I used to level on Tattered Tortons and also would go out in a group hunts for XP (Go WOOK!)
Getting buffed is always a good idea- I don't think you need to worry about armor if you can get a buff. For us old timers, buffs weren't even around when we did our leveling. Just keep running missions and stop to kills things you run into just wandering around.
Good luck and have fun!

- Get yourself a speed-sliced 2 handed sword
- Go to Dantooine and get in a large Solo group
- Grab the 5K Quenker Missions (15 spawn per lair @ 3K per = Approx 45K per lair)
- Do this to get Novice, then go 001x to get Spin Attack 2
- Continue doing this using Spin Attack 2.... go 041x, then 044x, then 444x (filling in Combat XP Boxes when you can)
That goes pretty quick doing this as the Quenkers tend to fall pretty fast... Use Spin Attack 1 until you get Spin Attack 2. Buffed is probably a good idea also with some Brandy.

Alright, since you guys said so, I tried the buff w/o armor method, and found it to work, so long as I'm careful. Thanks. Just a bit of xp left to novice.
And yeah, i'm using a sliced Curved Sword, it works well. I just had a bad experience, buffing without armor and then getting slaughtered as 4-5 huurtons surrounded me, lost a much needed 10k... But thanks a bunch, hopefully it won't be TOO long before I join the ranks of Master Swordsmen
