im wondering if there is any point to stacking defenses for pve? i at the moment am a master doctor/master swordsman, but im heavily considering dropping a bunch of doctor and getting 0-0-0-4 in TKA so i get a lot more defense. sounds great to me as their defense tree uses combat exp rather than unarmed exp. i was looking into fencer 4-0-0-0 but the exp used is one handed, and i believe the defense is even less. pve i do sweet while farming credits or such but when it comes to something like oh say the deathwatch bunker.. im getting owned compared to my friends. and i know that has a bit to do with the armor they wear compared to mine, but i figured more defense would be nice as well.

any oppinion or insight would be appreciated.

My alt is currently master swords/fencer 4-4-0-0/doc 4-0-3-0, mainly for pvp, gives the best of the fencer defs (IMO) and leaves you still able to cure anything DOT related too, works a treat.

For the most part, melee and ranged defenses are not that great for PvE. They can be very successful for mid-level opponents but the higher level opponents have accuracies with such high values that they overcome any and all defenses. As usually a fully templated character will be wanting to attack higher level PvE targets, the defenses just aren't worth it. Status defenses DO actually stack up and can be useful for higher-end PvE targets. However this advantage is at best only so-so and if you are coming from doctor than you probably already have better "defense" to states simply through the ability to use state heal packs.

Gaffyn McDonnell -- Master of Blades (master fencer/swordsman/brawler)
Flynn McDonnell -- Master Weapon Smith (+22 exp), Armorsmith (+25 exp)
Lorrinne McDonnell -- Nightsister (pike/doc)

Okay, is it worth while to have 75 melee defense vs 125 melee defense while fighting 4 to 5 NS Sentinels? Is the difference noticable?

I am working TK, Fencer, Swordsman and I am trying to cap out both Ranged and melee defense, but will it make the difference or should I keep them down and trade the points for something else?

Right now I have 117 melee and 90 something ranged. I still seem to get tore up pretty good vs when I only had 70 melee.

I don't think melee or ranged defense protects against the force specials from NS - those seem to be what get me

I dont think any amount of extra melee/ranged will make a big difference. Id take those points and go for state defenses.

Not needed too...I´m killing most of the times lesser ns like protectors, sentinals, spellweavers, rangers or stalkers....imo its only about being well prepaired, dealing lots of damage and heavin some good medic abilities...

ive worked out on different stacking templates and i agree in that getting those higher def vs * stats would be more helpful then a bit of melee/ranged def
