I have used the two and done a little testing, and I can't seem to notice any REAL difference.
Anyinfo is appreciated.

IMHO 2handed area kicks 2handed sweep's ass any day of the week.
Here's why: Area attack lays waste on everything around you while sweep does not.
If you are just debating the posture down effect that can happen with either one of these- DON'T they are about the same when it comes to chances of it happening (at least in my experience- and RARELY do I get a posture down with either one of these).
When I'm throwing down on a multitude of mobs the biggest question I have to ask myself is am I gonna take them down one at a time concentrating on the MIND bar (Mindhit 3 for the bleed and headhit 3 for the brain bashin') or am I gonna devestate everyone at once with area attack?
If I got three NSs on me I will do mind attacks 'cause having two sentinels and a spellweaver hitting you for too long will land you in a cloning center. So I whittle them down with a CONCENTRATED attack on the blue bar (area attacks put damage on the health and Action bars randomly-) one by one. These gradually eases up all the hits I end up taking.
If I got six Pikets on my case I will area attack them because they can hit me all day long and nothing is going to come through my armor so- might as well have them all fall at once.

/agree hotdog, good post
I only use area, not sweep if im gonna hit multiples, area3 sticks a dizzy occasionally too which thins the number of mobs hitting u at once if u notice which have dizzy on em and /lunge2 if ur master brawler
Effective vs Janta/Mokks and some NS i found

I have been opening the fight with the spin attack. Then I bust one sweep and one area attack to try and knock a few down. Then I just spam some mad spin attacks and then as they try and run I beat them down with 2handed 3. In a one on one I just pound their mellon.
