Thread: Please welcome our new Swordsman Correspondent!
Gorecki will be helping theSwordsman community by keeping us informed on the major issues with theSwordsman profession. Keep in mind, this title will be rotated monthly to take the stress off the current correspondent and to help us get the best feedback possible. ![]()
We'll announce when we're looking for the nextSwordsman Correspondent, but until then, help me welcome Gorecki tohis new rank!
Hi , Its about time we got one 8 ). Be sure to let them know about the obvious skill tree problems (no skill bonus under expert finesse) And the strange Sweep 2 and Area Attack both doing the same things, lowering posture. Seems like some wierd wasted skill on the tree they need to tweak. I think that sweep is supposed to knock down instead of lower posture, atleast thats what the polearm sweep does. Anyways, good luck fellow swordsman!!!
aaronius on bloodfin
gratz man.
Lets get some stuff done to this profession to make it worthwhile.
Although its a minor delay in welcoming you Gorecki, I've just been a lurker is all. But I have to break that tradition of silence to at least say hello and comment on how you are doing a great job! ![]()
Thank you for your belated welcome and your kind words, Drakat.
I'm usually as well more of a reader than a speaker but ever since beta it always worried me that the voice of the swordsmen's community, which was already rather small in beta, wouldn't be heard.
I remember for example an issue in beta where after implementation of weapons certification theheavy axe certification was missing. You can imagine my worries concerning going live and having to start the profession with a missing certification, after a couple of posts on beta board (not only by me) and bug reports didn't bring any changes. Eventually the certifcation was added, not too long before going live.
I guess that was one of the motivations to apply for this job and i have to say that so far i really enjoy doing it: i enjoy the respectful way people are treating eachother on this board, i enjoy the solutions people come up with here (i guess even if we see only a few of them being implemented i, and hopefully others, wil be happy swordsmen) and enjoy learning more every day about different factors in MMORPG as i am new to this genre and many of you seem to have already quite a few experiences with games like EQ, UO etc...
Thanks again
Gorecki

Master Creature Handler (Tamagochi/Pokemon handler in devs's mind)
Hello and welcome.
My first issiue, it seems the best weapon to use as a swordman is a 2 handed sword. the thigher weapos are to slow and to inaccurate to be effective.
Any melee class has to, well engage in contact with mobs. Either the mobs are do insane damage to the melee guy that other ranged players can avoid by warning shots and such, or the mob is a ranged mob and runs away, even the lunch ability does not much in those situations.
I often find that the only tactic i can use against humenoid mobs is to lower their posture fast, again and again. This way I have a chance to survive the fight (white to yellow cons) with maybe 30% or less damage, and that is not a given. But with the cleaver and such the speed is so slow, when combined with the accuracy negatives that you pretty much will take full damage each time and ussuly die to dark blue and white mobs. (some are easier, some are harder)
It would be nice if the weapons scalled up, with level, so that higher level weapons are actualy desirable. Also it would be nice if our melee and ranged defenses would be a bit more effective.
Anyway, we face allot of limitations with melee weapons, as do all the other melee classes. We want to give this class a good shoot, but currently are relative weak when compared to most any ranged class period. Melee traditionaly tanks, this means we have to have enough dodges, evasiona and counterblow skills to actuly have a chance to survie a battle.
anyway, good luck.
As Master HS the best weapon is the Power Hammer. On bloodfin i'll find a good melee crafter (blammo corp), that craft really good power hammer.
Base stats:
Dmg: 76-340˜ sliced 150-530˜
Spd: 6.0 seem to be a really high value ... but is not true cos as Master u have a sensible reduction in speed attack (+75 Two-handed Melee Speed w/o any skill enachment, w/ a real speed near the 2.5 - 3sec)
Stats cost: Health-102˜ / Action-50˜ / Mind-45˜ (around -122 HAM cost w/ a 2htohit3) could be better w/ experimentation and the best materials.
Range Mod: -40 @ 0m / -40 @ 3m / -40 @ 5m (like the speed the missing rate is greatly reduced as master ---> +110 Two-handed Melee Accurancy)
I hit w/ a range 2500/10000dmg x Swing w/ a ToHit3 (i've oneshotted an imp w/ a 1200dmg swing - post 75%patch of course).
I think that a good crafted Power Hammer is the best Weapon that a Master can handle (but prolly a waste of money for a NON-Master).
Let me know your opinion about that.
