Thread: Why didn't someone tell me?

I've been a Master Doc/Master Swordsman for...well, forever. There were my first (and only) Mastered Elite professions (I've been playing since late 2003). In all that time, I never PvPed or dueled. I always figured I'd get my ass handed to me. But in the last 2 weeks I've had nothing better to do since I was taking a bit of a break from crafting and started to do some practice duels. So what I want to know is....why didn't someone tell me that Doc/Swordsman was a great dueling (and seemingly PvP) template?

With almost no experience in any sort of Player vs Player combat, I've been mowing down Jedi, BH's, CMs, TKM's, and just about everyone. Only one Jedi and a Doc/Pikeman/Swordsman combo that I've dueled have beaten me. And those were close. In the little PvP I've found, I seem to be fairly effective as well. At least, I can tank a Jedi for the ranged players I'm fighting with and usually get them healing until they mind and/or force is all used up. Granted, when the odds are 5 vs 2 against me or 5 vs 2 in my favor its not a real test of skill. But I just can't believe how all-around effective this template (with Imp CoB from TK, of course) is. Naturally, as soon as I realize this (not that I'm really into PvP, but it was making for a nice vacation from crafting) the game is being completely redesigned and this will all be for nothing. Not to mention the nerf I'm taking as a crafter.

So it goes.

Not really. Up until a couple of weeks ago I barely logged in my combat toon. And when I did it was with a specific purpose in mind (like go to the Geo caves and find a -14 SAC cube). The rest of the time I was really focused on crafting and never really paid attention to dueling (I mean, who cares about dueling when there are great berries on Talus?) or PvP. And at least on my server, most of the dueling seems to be ranged vs ranged or ranged vs Jedi or Jedi vs Jedi. Not too many standard (non-Jedi) melee players.

Whenever I made a great power hammer, there were just the usualy 5-6 people interested in it. Every time I made a better one, the same people would bid on it. So there don't seem to be too many Swordsman on my server. Though with that said, the few melee players I've fought have been the toughest opponents. I fought a Swordsman the other day (he seemed to have at least some Doc and some Pikeman...and was lvl 80...oh, and Imp. CoB) and it went on for 40 minutes before he did a knockdown when I wasn't prepared and instead of clicking Knockdown recovery, I swapped that button with Burst Run. At that point he did 2-3 specials and finished me off. But until that point, we both had full mind, decent action and health and there was no end in sight. I joked that I had intended to duel until the CU2 hit, but that wasn't what I meant.

You know what really hurts, -apeist? A day or so before the news came out I'd just made a new power hammer. 82 SAC, 470-1000, 2.81 spd. It sliced to 507-1080, 2.75 and has been working well for me these last few days. Its going to be sad when this converts into junk. Even if the weapons conversions are good, a SAC capped power hammer is likely to convert poorly compared to an damage capped one, given that the only stat of importance will be damage.

Yes you did. I think if I hadn't of swapped my knockdown recovery with another button I could have held out another hour at least. But there was no way I could have beat you (unless you had messed up, of course). I know my plan was to duel until the new system went into effect, but I didn't mean it quite so literally.

After our duel (for that matter, during the duel) I realized what people said about duels that can take forever. Oh well, it was fun.

thats because as master doc/master swords you dont have enough offesive goodies to help put them down.

if you have only mswords, /doc 4004 and put the rest into other abilities then you can more effectively end the fight.

Only problem with being Doc/anything is that as soon as you get picked out as being a Doc youll ahve 5 jedi beating on you... or that is my experience anyway.

Been Doc/swords since beta, we have always been great... i still remember oneshoting people with head hit 1 before they reduced player damage in PvP... ahh many Imps/Dulers yelld exploit when that happend
