Hello all, I just came back from a year break to enjoy the new updated game... i have earned a respec and i want to become a master swordsman. Question is... I dont know how to make an effect one or what skills to choose. If i could get some ideas for a build i would appreciate it. Right now i was thinking master swordsman and master pikeman (for defences and general speed and accurcacy) and go to thermal detenator on commando tree (also for defences and general speed and accuracy). Just try to give me your thoughts and opinions... try to explain what you would do yourself if you could respec and wanted to become a swordsman...

Thanks a ton =)

Well, first off, I would pass on Commando, unless you just have your heart set on it, and replace that with 4xxx or 4xx4 of the Doctor Tree. Healing is pretty usefulin the game these days if you plan to solo PvE or duelPvP at all. Trust me, the healing is much more useful than the mods & attacks from Commando and will make your life easier.

Secondly, Pikes is a nice profession, but, unfortunately in the game now armor decays so fast that it simply isn't viable to keep a suit of armor around for anyone who isn't quite wealthy. For that reason, many people (including myself) have picked up Teras Kasi Master for the innate armor and defenses. Even if you don't want to go TKM, I would recommend at least going x1xx in TK to get COB (Center of Being, +500 defense ability).

Basically, the most popular Swords-based melee builds right now are Doc 4xxx, TKM, MasterSwords - Doc 4xx4, TKM, Swords x444.

Some people are still stacking multiple melee profs, getting great defense without healing, and being quite effective, but, if you ever want to solo high end PvE (like Krayts, Nightsisters, Necrosis) or want to PvP, you really need some healing.

Anyway, the topic of templates is pretty much discussed constantly around here and the TK forums, so, just look around some and you will find a ton more info. And, welcome back!

Right now Doctor is a MUST with Melee. Doc 4000 or some combo of the first doc tree and medic bacta toss will keep you in the fight and with the right foods will let you outlast almost anyother player including jedi if you learn your template better than they know theirs. Melee requires more skill in pvp then the other professions but if used correctly can be the most powerful (excluding full template jedi that know what they are doing...). The Templates I recommend with Master Swordsman are...

TKM, Master Swords, DOC 4000 or doc 2002 * Doc 2002 will be not nearly as useful after publish 21(due to nerf of speed buff)so I recommend doc 4000.

This temp allows you to forgo armor (Ill explain why this is a great choice later on), great defences along with plus 500 from COB.

Other Pros

  • Heavy Hitting of Swords

  • Ability to heal like a master doc with foods/be clothes

  • extra speed which is a must with swordsman when you can afford the nasty prices of plus 25 SAs

  • Action with swords is swordsmans bane more so then speed in many cases, The ability to keep an enemy healing and recovering from different attacks while you are low on action is accredited to the fact that you can whip outa pair of katarn knuclkers with a -SAC Pup when you need to and wield them effectively. Once your action starts recovering whip out your PH and go for the kill.

There are many more pros to this temp but Id rather hold up and show you the few cons.

Cons

  • Melee as I said is very hard to learn and be effective at. I was ranged and found that much easier in pvp because I was able to stay back, keep the same two attacks plus KD and Snare and be effective. With Melee you are in the thick of the fight and due to the fact that you are harder to take down will be a number 1 target of Jedi and Ranged Combatants. Learn your template and learn others common ones and try to find weaknesses fast and make sure that you cover yours up while remaining aggresive.

I realize that doctor might not be the number one choice or may not be appealing at all to players. I didnt pay attention to this at first and I suffered. Believe me when I say Doc is the only way for must players to be anymore than cannon Fodder in any sort of combat PvE or PvP.

Now with pikeman/swordsman... I have actually never seen this template in action so I dont know what to say about it. They are both offensive professions so you would be a heavy hitter and with doc... Rather useful in PvE but I say TKA is a great choice now adays.

The ability to not where armor can avoid situations like this.... I bought a 1.2 million suit of armor....since getting back I have bough probally 3 or 5 million credits worth of armor from switching templates or grabbing grinding or faction armor. My 1.2 million suit was my PvP suit for the time but after a friend and I fought a jedi for over 45 minutes and probally longer (3 spice downers with some time inbetween) My new helmet was down to 900 condition.....and my chestplate has been cut down to half. That was my 4th fight in that suit of armor, the other fights had been short and I was never a huge target...GO TKM it saves money and if you decide that Melee is not your cup of tea you wont have wasted good money on the armor for it because in most cases ranged will make you wear Recon or assault....

Hope this helped somewhat and sry its so long but just follow the golden melee rule, Doc is a must.
