I am an up-and-coming swordsman, still torn between mastering either Doc or Brawler to go with it.

I just wanted to know from folks what you guys plan to do once skills from other classes dont stack anymore. I dont have the time to get another good profession up to speed to be able to experience the bonuses from another class, so im just going to start planning for after the next update.

All opinions on this are welcome.

After I master Creature Handler, I'm seriously considering dropping it and taking Doctor. I thought about taking Combat Medic but you can't master it and swordsman. As a doctor though, being able to buff yourself is a definite plus.

Master Brawler, a lot of people like for the intimidate and warcry 2. I've never had it and do pretty well without it.

I believe the combat skills that arent gonna be stacking are the defensive ones from say carbineer/swordsman's counterattack or fencer/pistoleer dodge, also melee/range defense wont be stacking. But the defenses like vs dizzy/kd/posture should still stack

well if they nerf KD/Dizzy defense we're going to be worthless.

the only way we survie now is with mixing other professions defense.

we'll all have to pick up master doctor - and if i have to that i'll proably stop playing.

wow is coming soon.

Okay just to clarify for myself and other readers.. what all won't be stacking?

  1. Counter-attack/Dodge/Evade (or whatever those 3 are from fencer/sword/pole & rifle/carbine/pistol) * I know this will no longer stack *

  2. Melee/Ranged Defense - The generic +10 melee defense type mods you see in various combat classes - I don't know if this will still stack, I hope it does because otherwise we're screwed

  3. State Defenses - vs Dizzy, KD, Posture, Stun, etc - Likewise I hope these still stack otherwise, see point #2

This is the first I've heard that #2 & #3 might not be stacking after publish.. Someone please step in and give the word one way or another if you can. :/

i get the feeling they will nerf these and then there will be another month before the combat revamp.

so we'll be hanging out to dry for proably a month with no defense - and in the combat revamp i see them screwing us for defense because we have "high damage"

even though it never hits, or we never get the chance to hit.

i hope that's not the case but thats what i predict.......and i predict my credit card to be nerfed as well

Well as an ex-Everquest Monk (of more than 3 years).. I would like to see a move away from the heavy reliance on a full set of armor for melee fighters. Something like this for a combat "outfit"..

First Layer
  • Tactical Skin Suit - Light Armor, Similar resist balance as Ubese, A single largish (relatively) HAM cost (around 200-300?), would cover all but feet/head.

Second Layer
  • Armor Clothing (Like the Ubese Shirt) but with significant bonuses to melee/ranged defense and state effects. These would not have damage type resists (ie kinetic, blast, etc) nor would they have an armor rating. Numbers would depend on quality of craftmanship, maybe very rare loot drops of really high quality. Total of one type (for example melee defense) would be about what you would get now by having a couple diff elite melee classes. This would also mean the +melee defense type stats would be removed from the classes, or at least MOSTLY removed and only given a few at Master as a nice bonus reward.

Third Layer
  • Helmet & Boots of your choice

Just an idea. I know crafters would love it, more money to suck out of us punching bags. Basically the point would be to remove the need to dabble for defense and put it into player crafted items. It would also allow for more diverse appearances both between player and player in general, and ranged and melee fighters specifically. Any comments?

reliance?

haha

wookiees don't have that probelm haha

how does combat defense stacking change armor useage?

i would think it would go up.

armor is more powerful than any defense stacks in PVP anyway.

maybe i read that wrong

hmm. if they nerf melee/ranged defense stacking, it will suck, because a swordsman only gets 20 melee defense, master brawler adds 2 from unarmed 4 and 5 from master brawler, for a max of 27. a master commando gets 39 in total. where is the balance in a commando having more melee defenses than a pure melee fighter?
