Hehe, okay... probably not the best day for this question but hey you need a break from the horrific nerf bashing and thinking some about what is fun about the swordsman. I am totaly new to this game. Got in yesterday.. hehe... on nerf...erh.. I mean patch day.

Nonetheless, I read about everyone crying in many proof forums, being new this game itis very scary... is the game really that bad? Maybe I should go back to AO again, after 1 day.

Anyway, I was kinda curoius on the swordsman proof and I would love to get some pointers since I am planning on going that way despite the nerfs. Since I like the idea of kicking a**with swords. So, please if you have anything positive to say about your proof this is the time to tell me and give me some ideas/pointers about other good skills one might need.

And please, if you haven't anything good to say about it, please don't post. Think hard.. there must still be some good stuff.

Also, can you dual wield two swords? Or is it two-hand swords only?

I haven't got to play since the patch, but.....

I like Swordsman because we attack mind and can do a great deal of damage in 1 hit, also, I kind of consider the Swordsman Proffesion to be a sort of Heavy Weapons class(I'm a former Master BH and Master Commando). If you like the idea of tearing up with swords, you might wanna give Fencer a try, you'll find them to be much faster while the Swordsman does more damage at a slower rate. Everyone is pissed about the DOT nerf, but you just started and never knew the joys of stacking DOTs to the moon, so I won't discuss that

When you first start working on Swords, your main concern should be working up to being able to handle the 2-hand curved sword. Many would advise that this is the best sword for a Pre-Swordsman, and I agree. It's very fast and with the right slice or power-up, you can go through the Brawler 2-hand skills in no time. If you're already a Swordsman, then I advise to just have fun with your skills. Of course there are many ways to power level through any skill, but to have the most fun with it at the Novice level, I suggest learning Master Brawler, this allows you to delay a target for 20 seconds using Warcry2, also it gives you a Knockdown attack(2-hand lunge2) and Intimidation2, which reduces the damage a taget can do to you significantly.

You can only wield 1 sword currently....but who knows...anything can happen in the future

Also, don't mind all the angry people, just grab a good sword and a couple of friends and have some fun.

Like I said, you've never been able to stack DOTs, so this patch doesn't affect you so much.

Only when you get the skills, will you be pissed LOL

good luck

If you want to enjoy the game - you should not come to the forums (only sort of kidding).

These forums are great for up-to-the-minute information, and a heads-up on things coming down the pipe. Contrary to popular opinion sometimes - the Devs do listen to posts made on the forums and try to improve the game based on that (sometimes).

After any patch there is going to be days and days of complaining. Nobody likes change and the forums are the way some choose to express their displeasure. My advice would be to just flat out ignore the negative flaming posts, read the good ones (advice and constructive criticism) and chime in when you can.

The game is not perfect - but there is a lot of fun to be had. There is currently a big change to the way combat plays in the game - it's coming in gradually and changing the way things play pretty profoundly, which is why a lot of the professionsare up in arms.

To answer your questions - no there is no dual wield in the game, single swords only.

As a new player - my advice to you would be to take all the novice skills and try out each of the basic trees. Run a bunch of Survey missions from the Artisan mission terminals to build up a nice stock of credits and give all the lines a try. If you're going to stay a brawler class - buy a set of mabari armourweave at your earliest opportunity - it will really help.

Swordman in particular is fun because of the damage you can do - but I'd recommend trying out rifleman as well to complement your fighting style.

Melee is at something of a disadvantage in this game - especially in PvP combat - so bear that in mind. Those disadvantages can be overcome by both skill choice and battle strategy.

Good luck with your new character- and welcome to the game

I still love swordsman even after the 'nerf'. I never really used bleeds that much anyway, so it hasn't really affected me. I love the damage I can do and how fast I can do it, plus running into a pack of rancors is far more fun than shooting them with a blaster from a hill.

(And they fixed my armor bug, so I'm loving the patch)

Thanks for all the answers. Really great info. I will continue on my path of becoming Swordsman. I will also take first aid for some healings and scout for some camps, atleast for starters. I am going master brawler for Warcry2 and the KD skill.

Any other suggestions of some skills that could do me some good?
