Thread: TKA a must-have?

I am sure this has been asked - apologies if it is time wasting. I hit search but kept getting the "too many searches" thing.

If I do not have any TKM other than 4-0-0-0 is Swordsman likely to be disappointing? I have a buddy who is TKM and Master Swords and she rips thru a rancor lair in about 90 seconds - but says the toughness aspect of TKM really makes a difference.

How good IS a swordsman with no tkm skills beyond meditation? A waste of time? or does the TK not really count?

Opinions would be handy - am in one of those crossroads places at the moment and could use a shove in the right direction.

Oh and dont have the SP for master TK, so it is a path i cannot take

Thanks.

Every MSwords/Doc out there will tell you they can solo 99% of the mobs in the game. Having doc doesn't give a huge bonus in combat, its just most don't like searching for a doc to buff. That 1% we can't solo would bethe SBDs, because thats just a waste of equipment condition to solo.

I have a MSwords/Doc dabbling template and hold my own in PvP very easily. Its all about the equipment though. Anyone that says just MSwords isn't enough to be good in PvP doesn't have the right equipment.

So short answer, no other skills are required to make swordsman good, just equipment.

Crazyboarder, jsut to let you know, those state defenses on the tka tree wont stick if your using a 2 handed weapon, so basically getting that tree is useless if your only using it for the defenses. but it still good cause it would give you that kd ability which can help alot in PvP.

Are you sure about this? For sure the unarmed toughness doesn't stick with a 2h weapon, nor does the mitigation gotten from that profession (and presumably defensive acuity, although that's broken anyway), but I wasn't aware that state defenses were based off of the weapon. Where'd you learn this?

I just gave up some of my TK skills and am now TK 4-0-0-4 ,Swordsman 1-1-2-3, Master Brawlerand was able to stand toe to toe with a NS elder. Only needed a heal rarely from my friend.

The last line in the TK skills gives you a +30 to melee defence, the only other TKtemplate you mightwant (assuming you are fighting with swords and not VK) would be TK 4-4-0-4 adding that second line it gives alot of stat bonuses. The third line only gives you bonuses to unarmed combat which you woun't need as a swordsman.

The only must-have for a good swordsman is ... welll .... Master Swordsman, and to make you a great swordsman Master Brawler. Anything added to this is just extra, but not necessary unless you are doing a lot of PvP. I did hear though that nightsisters are getting weapons and force powers back, this may change things a bit.

As said, the unarmed toughness obviously don't work as a swordsman but the rest of the defenses in the line x4xx work just fine. I've been a TKA 4300 now for a long time and those defenses are really worth having. Especially the combat equilibrium, gives you a chance even though you've been dizzy/Kd'd.

I am a Master Brawler, Master TKA and Master Swordsmen. I use the TKA to heal myself, but I use Swordsmen to fight due to the great mind hits. I would say that if you do not plan on Mastering Swordsmen that you will not see the benefits compared to TKA.

My PVE will be Master Swords - Master Brawler - 4/0/0/0 Fencer - 4/4/4/0 Medic 4/0/1/0 Scout.

I choose Fencer for the Melee / Ranged Defenses. Medic for Stim D's - Scout just so I can run up hills and harvest for a few extra $'s.

hm... I remember from way way back, many people were stat stackingand it was basically impossible to kill them inPvP, so the devs decided that it wasnt fair so they added a patch that removed the stacking of the state defenses so people wont be sooo godly in PvP.

Not exactly. Stacking wasn't eliminated, but its potential godliness was reduced through a hard cap on defenses. If memory serves, the hard cap is +125 to all defenses, be they ranged, melee, or state. The old stacking templates used to let you far exceed these, even getting upwards of 200ish rangedand melee defense, which rendered people pretty well unhittable.
