Thread: Suggestion for our next letter to the devs
This is more of a general brawler issue as well as a rifleman complaint, but it also effects us.
The advantage of melee is that if we get close to a guy holding a gun, we will do enough bonus damage to kick his butt.
Melee vs Rifles: True!
Melee vs Carbines: True.
Melee vs Pistols: False.
The pistol damage bonus is only 1.1x.
This impacts PvE as well as PvP. When I'm fighting a rebel NPC who's holdinga rifle, I can whoop his butt in ten different ways. When he has a pistol, it's as if he was a meleer and I have basically no advantage in fighting him, yet I retain my melee disadvantages when he starts to run away.
I suggest we make this request:
- When a meleer hits a ranged weapon user there is a damage bonus applied. This bonus damage is very high for rifles (2.5x)and insignificantly small for pistols (1.1x). We would like to see this leveled to be a flat bonus of, say, 2x versus all ranged weapons, regardless of type. It doesn't make sense that someone holding a pistol should take less damage when hit by a sword than someone holding a rifle or carbine.
If anything, I think they have it reversed. Rifles should be better at blocking a sword than a pistol. Rifles suck at point blank accuracy anyway. Pistols really kill us, though, because they have great point blank accuracy and almost no damage penalty vs melee. Pistoleers are driving melee classes out of business because they do it all.
Pistol whip is only a PvP problem.
The issue I'm talking about is equally PvP and PvE. That Rebel Major General will whoop your arse in a toe to toe fight because he's using a pistol. He won't ever do a pistol whip, but his pistol damage alone will tear you apart and you aren't getting any meaningful damage bonus against him.
Whereas if he'd had a rifle, he'd be in trouble, like the manual says.
Therefore I'm saying that the damage bonus for attacking ranged weapon users should be the same across the board. We should have as much of a bonus when hitting a rifleman as when hitting a pistoleer. It makes no sense that we don't.
