Thread: Creatures retreating

You said you haven't been to Lok. A typical example last night would involve me pulling a single mynock with a debuffing trap. I would work at him until it was almost dead, and it would take off. I have rifle skills, so I was able to finish it that way, but if I wanted to go pure sword I would have had to follow it right into the middle of 5 other mynocks, who would very quickly slay me. This isn't a problem that happens sometimes. Almost EVERY mynock, perlek and giant flit that I fought last night would retreat.

It's really bad when you almost have a giant flit finished, and another one aggros. If you were to run after the first one, you would get the defense penalty for running, guaranteeing that the second one would kill you.

Is this really not a problem for most of you?! Is this just because you don't have a problem being required to use a ranged weapon for the finishing blow?

Try ubese armor. I have a full suit of that and it can get some pretty rockin kinetic protection and the HAM cost isn't bad. (Certainly not as bad as, say, padded.)

Although if you never plan to back up your sword with at least some gun skills, you're never going to amount of much in PvP, if that's something of concern to you.

My question for you would then be "Why?" You make an assumption that you should not have to. Clearly the designers have decided that if you want to be able to hurt a creature at distance you will need to get at least a minimum of ranged skills. I'm interested in hearing why you feel you shouldn't.

My solution to this has been to pull out a CDEF rifle and hopefully finish off the creature before it gets away. All characters are certified for use of CDEF weapons. I am not a marksmen, but find I can still hit anything with about a 50% chance of success. I only do about 40 points of damage a shot, but many times it is just enough to finish off that creature you just spent the last 90 seconds fighting.

Hmmm, so just to make sure I understand, you are able to use a ranged weapon even if you don't have novice marksman? If you try to use a higher cert level ranged weapon, does it cause you to do more or less damage?

Yes, as long as it is a CDEF (Everyone has CDEF certification).

Using a weapon you are not certified with results in greatly reduced damage.

When they run i use lunge (if they are effected by it). I really feel that the posture change should effect more creatures than it does. Seems only humanoid ones are effected which is stupid.

Oh, that's another gripe to put on the next letter: Posture Down attacks don't seem to effect any mobs but the humanoid ones which is pretty sucky.

I would really like to give up my ranged skills and go pure melee, but lately I have been having more and more problems with creatures retreating when they are almost dead. The patch seems to have made it even worse. While I appreciate a good creature AI, it can make it impossible to finish a creature without a ranged weapon. This isn't like warning shot where they come back. I've had mynocks and perleks continue flying away over 100 meters and going out of range and never returning. I don't know if this should be considered a bug. Any others having problems with this? Any solutions? Should this be an issue to raise with the devs?

what i do is at the begining of the battle, i have a macro set for follow. i hit that before i hit attack, that whay your still attackin when it starts to run.

Ever tried that on Lok? You will follow it right into a group of reds. Besides that, say you are fighting groups of flits or perleks and using a spin attack. One starts to run away. Do you chase while the others are still on you? Do you wait and let more start running? Now when you finally decide to chase them, they are 120 meters away, and you could only catch up if you burst run. See the problem?

Use your lunge attack, unless it's just totally outrunning you. Rebel NPC's like to kite me a lot, so when I see them turn to run I'll try to land a lunge on them so they'll go to kneeling and I can smack them around some more.

And/or when you see them getting low, start doing some sweeps so they don't run off.

And/or aim for the mind and land the mind DOT. They'll run off and die anyway, just try to stay within 64m so you get XP.

And/or backup your brawling with some marksman. I personally find this to be mandatory, if only because of PvP.

Never been to Lok, and when surrounded and one starts to run, yes i continue to follow till that one is dead, then a spin attack or two when i get surrounded again, do i die? sometimes.

what i would like to see is some decent armor that actually works and doesn't cost half of my ham bars to use.
