Are you joking?

Have you seen what they did to the Teras Kasi knockdown? Instead of 35 points to do it with no VKs on, it now costs 200, and armed is something silly, like 700. If I knock your ass down three times now in PvP, which isnt much, I loose 600 HAM.

And my Swordsman skills? Don't make me laugh...the HAM costs are still too much becuase factories are broken so Weaponsmiths cant amke things.

It is taking every single bit of willpoer I can muster to keep myself from dropping my Swords ans Vibroknucklers and picking up a pistol.

Yes, I just tried the new patch today and that kd nerf hit TKA bad since Teras Kasi really focuses on their knockdowns. but wow.

I am a Teras Kasi Master and a Heavy Sword Master. There are many people saying things that just aren't true and I am hoping to be of some help. First of all, imo neither is better than the other overall. However, some do have strengths in areas that the other does not. So here I go:

PVE

Teras Kasi

Solo:

  • Teras Kasi is an amazing solo fighter. Knockdown, with the ability to remove your knucklers, combined with meditation makes quick work of high level mobs and the ability toheal after battle is just fantastic.

  • 2H does not do very well at all solo. With no knockdown we get damaged severly and have no way to regen ourselves (all of this assuming we jus thave Teras kasi or 2h trees)

Grouped:

  • Teras Kasi is good in groups but 2H sword deals significantly more damage and the area attacks are amazing and will let you gain experience faster.

Now for the fun stuff:

PVP:

Teras Kasi is a fantastic one on one fighter. However, they are not good at all in more than a one on one situation. This is where 2H really shines. I have dueled 2 Teras Kasi at once and beaten them with my sweeps and mind attacks. So I would say 75% of the time a teras kasi wins in a one on one situation vs a melee but they struggle in a more than one on one situation.

Damage: 2H severely outdamages Teras Kasi. (There was just a patch so this was possibly changed) but teras kasi do not have the damage ability of 2H for two main reasons. One, there is a 1 second speed cap which REALLY hurts Teras Kasi and two, Teras Kasi deals with knockdowns while 2H sword deals with Heavy Mind Attacks.

My Overall Opinion: They both have their uses and I could say neither is better than the other honestly. One melee focuses on knockdowns while the other focuses on high damage and vs multiple opponents. So if you plan on going on one on one encounters go Teras Kasi (or for their cool styles) or if you plan on wanting to go into a bunch of your enemies and whirlwinding of death go 2H sword =). Anyways, if you have any questions about either class or their comparisions feel free to ask and I will respond to this tread.

lol, ok. Stop with the KDs. The change was probably so that TKAs (and othe professions whose got a melee knockdown) would stop abusing it.

If you would say... maybe try some of your other combat skills... you will see some of the buffs they added to TKA.

Currently, (post-patch) a TKA can out-damage a Swordsman quite well. This doesn't even take into account the natural speediness of their attacks but in just damage per hit.

Saw it with my own eyes.

I recently added up the total bonuses the various elite brawlers get and here's the breakdown of TKA vs swordsmen (this does not count any bonuses from the brawler tree).

..........................TKA.......Swordsman

Accuracy 10560

Speed90 50

Melee D 3020

Ranged D 3015

Toughness 37 18

As you can see, TKA wins in every single category here.Next are the various defense vs x mods.

Posture change 30 10

Blind 1010

Knockdown 2025

Dizzy 5 20

Stun 15 30

Intimidate 0 20

Swordsman has the advantage here, beating TKA in 4 out of 6 defense vs. categories.

TKA has two special abilities: meditate and combat equilbrium. Swordsman gain one: counterattack.

Teras kasi artists area superior defensive tree in my view. Are they better at offense than a swordsman? That is the subject of some debate.

Well I'll give you some input from a TKA standpoint.

Currently I am a TKA with intermediate balance conditioning (knockdown), advanced precision striking (defense bonuses and, body hit, leg hit), and expert power techniques (damage/speed buffs, unarmed dizzy, unarmed combo)

As of yesterdays patch, I currently do more damage as an expert two handed sword user (basic profession)

Knucklers are no longer an option. They were already starting to become more of a hinderance than a bonus, but now the one reason I had to use them (that being knocking down an opponent for a decent amount of damage before taking them off) is gone. I mean c'mon, ever try using a special that costs 750 HAM? Kill myself faster than anybody else can in PvP now.

Also all other TKA damage was either unchanged or nerfed, NOT boosted as the patch claimed. In fact my unarmedcombo1 and unarmedhit2 went from good offensive abilities to being a simple waste of HAM.

In fact my sword with a non-special swing does twice the damage as either of those abilities and is not much slower at all.

Also defense doesn't do a lot right now. Melee and Ranged Defense either don't work or don't provide much of a noticeable bonus at all.

Same with posture change, blind, knockdown, dizzy, stun. I have never defended against a knockdown in PvP.

With the new PvP changes and a Master Pistoleer + Master Combat Medic being the strongest army in the game (for those who don't know why.. AE ranged knockdown + no LoS needed AE mind poison), I'd say you'll fare much better being a Swordsman as you have good mind-targetted attack.

Drak i think you have the defenses of the swordsman and TKA switched around on that table up there. TKa has better bonuses to almost everything, offense and defense.

Two hand does more damage then teras kasi, let alone AR2 weapons and the ability to focus on the most vulneral stat pool; mind. Teras Kasi would do more damage over time if the one second attack cap was not implemented. Dothe test for yourself. Turn on timestamp.

Henzo,

The numbers are correct. TKAs have a total of 80 points of defense vs x mods. The swordsman tree has 115 points and fencers and pikemen get 140 points. Swordsman is the only tree though from the 4 elite brawler professions that gain defense vs all 6 types.

Personally, I would rather have higher melee toughness, melee defense and ranged defense than higher defense vs stun etc, but that's just me.

Pistoleers no longer have an AE knockdown. The patch changed it to single target.

We're looking pretty closely at the knockdown situation right now, and are exploring a couple of ways to adjust it. Once I have something that seems decent to us, we'll toss it out there for comment.

im sry to say i solo al the time as a "Expert heavy swordsmen" even since i was new swordsmen. I dont find it difficulty....if against Human Mobs i use my sweep and area attacks to posture change and i make the creatures mind bleed and then mind hit....i dont find it hard to solo at all
