First let me say that after the patch i got 33% on every test i did until i lvled up and increased my defense anouther 10 points. when i next logged in a did the following tests and got Much different results.

I am a master brawler novice pikeman novice fencer stances 2 master 2 hnd sword offense and def 2 terakazi and lvl three precision strikeing tera kazi.

stats 64 melee defense

42 ranged defense

no armour

i took over time 3 takes fighting a lowly ragtagloon so all would be on the same target: (and so i would never really lose hp)

1st 213 total hits 114 successful hits 99 misses % missed 46.4

2nd 210 total hits 69 successful hits 141 misses % missed 67.1

3rd 336 total hits 153 successful hits183 misses % missed 54.5

at this time i saw a wide ranged of totals... so i decided to do 1 with a real high number of hits was in order:

489 total hits195 successful hits 294 misses % missed 60.1

grand total: 1248 total hits 531 successful hits 717 missed % missed 57.4

i am considering that either the game takes a defense reading when you start combat or something close to the avg 57.4 or in other words lets say 58%

i did3 takes on a brand new wookie as well (smaller ones as he had a tendency to get incapped after a while)

stats 0 melee defense 0 ranged defense 0 armour

164total hits 122 successful hits42 misses % missed26.5

146 total hits 108 successful hits38 misses % missed26.0

219total hits 152 successful hits 67 misses % missed 30.0

grand total: 462 total hits 382 successful hits 147 misses% missed 27.7

with a large number am doing it now as i write hehe will post later) but this is in line with the 26-31% i got before when i was, it appears, baseline bugged on defense before i trained.

if this is close to true then it appears that baseline chance to hit (and i did checks on higher creatures when i was bugged it was almost always 1 miss to every 2 hits) appears to be 28% or close to that

if i take that as true then i am getting 29.7% roughly from 64 points of defense. which equates to around 1% per2.1 defense points (it is likely 2 gives 1% hehe as i doubt the programs would want to deal in fractions).

on the arena of dmg i found the following to be true:

the high hit on the wookie was 68

the high hit on my trandie was 38

This is interesting as my sword resist dmg is 43% right now and that equates to 43.2% so i have to believe that melee defense has no effect on dmg resistance only on dmg avoidance.

on a sub topic i found one irregular thing... while i didnt write down the number of dodges i had on my main it wasnt more than 3-4 as i only remember 1 time ever seeing it and i never remember seinga counterattack or a block (i have 5 in all three) However, on my noob wookie i had a total of 12. I have no idea what made this happen. I do say my main started out a scout and i started the wookie as a brawler? the patches are baselining the special defenses? i have no answers here... just ideas...

hope this helps and if anyone has some more data to add please help out by adding your own numbers so we can define what melee/ranged defense really means.

Always appreciate a good tester such as you =). thanks for the info.

i have no data to share with.. but when u say your sword resist damage is 43%, what do you mean by that? and how do u find out?

also, u know how toughness work? it seem to reduce the damage i'm taking by quite a lot...

and with the TKA its most noticable.

aye each class gets it at expert like sword gets 10 pike 4 fencer 10 tera 10... those are dmg resist so i have the toal of 10 expert 10 master 5 master bralwer 10 novice sword 4 expert offense 4 master offense total43% resist all when wielding a 2hnded sword...my pike on the other hand is a measly 22 hehe but then pike got the shaft on resists.

You're not taking into account the +hit% of the mob. I bet the points are the percentage of avoiding, but it's mitigated by the bonus hit % of a mob.

For example, if you have 50% defense, but the mob has 25% offense, you're not going to dodge 50% of the time. Just an example, I have no clue how it really works. I'm sure there's some esoteric equation involved.

Great testing, though, glad to see that our defense stuff actually does something.

I found a skill enhancer that is +7 2h sword avoidance. I'm wondering if this means you will avoid hits from 2H swords better? Or does it mean you avoid all attacks better, if you are wielding a 2H weapon?

I've noticed that a lot of skill enhancers have stats that you don't gain from training. I'm wondering if any of them really do much good.

What I'd really love to find is some +toughness enhancers.

Actually, to be more exact, it is +2H melee evasion.
