Thread: Offensive Meditation Line suggestion

I stole this from someone, I forget who, from the "In Concept" thread for Swordsman. I think this is the greatest idea of all time for our profession:

"Beserker" or "Offensive Meditation" abilities- the antithesis of the Meditation line in tka; same general concept except with apower boost (Rage Boost? OffensiveFocus?)that gives bonuses perhaps to strength, quickness, focus to reduce HAM costs on specials, and scaling abilities such as immunity to stun, increased damage, increased accuracy, increased speed, and increaseddurationall the way up to Offensive Meditation 4 and then Master. Not stackable with normal TKA meditation. Perhaps an offesetting vulnerablity during the boost time.

Problems would exist- such as how to make it so that not everyone and thier mother will pick up swordsmand just to get this line (which is how tka and the meditation line now stand)

I'm curious what other people think about this sort of addition... am I the only one as geeked about this idea?

To prevent dabbling, they would need to spread the bonuses across all the boxes in a profession. And in so doing a dedicated line for it would be ruled out.

maybe just limit some of the things that it could do, and put it in Master?

The basic idea of Berserk 3 /Rage is great! It would be appropriate for there to be a downside to it as well:If it boosts your offensive power then it should reduce your defensive abilities in some fashion, either ranged & melee defenses or the state defenses.I don't think we want a god mode, buta usefuland fun ability to usein certain situations.

I likethe idea of Rage giving bonuses to Health Action and Mind, butnot the supporting stats (need to keep the chefs and smugglers in business). But I do think it would be cool if Rage increased the effect of spices (50-100%) to encourage fighting high, like a true berserker should.

My favorite ideais the more advanced you get into the skill line, the longer you can stay enraged (max. 10 minutes). You canexit rage at any time, but when you do, a downerhits for 1/4 the duration the rage lasted: you become stunned and intimidatedand your base strength, quickness, and focus are all reduced to 1,so youcan't do much.

This would distinguish Rage from TKA's powerboost. The TKAmeditates to prepare for battle and pays the price up front, whilethe Swordsmanflies into a rage instantly, suffering the downside afterward.

I like it, kinda like a "vitalize" stat for Zabraks? Make it a "backs against the wall" thing maybe? The opposite of CoB? Way to have it work is just attach a "2H" in front of it, so it can only be used when and if you have a 2H weapon equipped.

How about you could only use it every 30-60 minutes, and would decrease defense, but double your damage?

Another concern is for those who RP or think of themselves more as "Samauri" rather than "Berserkers". I think both should somehow be supported. I.e., i don't think rage or berserk is in line with the former... "Offensive Focus" is more in line with samauri i think... semantics aside, however, I really like the idea of the anit-tka meditation that focuses on offensive up front benefits for 10 mintues, but at the price of defense or a downer afterwards.

Good point Zedar, as one of the "Samurai" wanna-be types I shun the thought of being considered a Berserker. A Star Wars relative name should be attributed and I think this really needs to be included in our improvements/changes. I'd like a strong name for it similar to the awesome "Domination" lol which probably holds the only cool name in our various abilities. Hell ya, give us our mini-boost to end the duels in style, I'd love a Coup de' Grace!

The RP concern is valid, but we're about much more than samurai type fighting.I mean look at the weapons we have: two handed axe, cleaver, two handed curved sword, powerhammer, scythe blade. I'd say we are about 1/5 samurai and 4/5berserker. At the same time, look at some of thoseJapanesehelmets with fearsome demons on them and tell me a 'rage' ability would be out of character for a samurai!

Anyway, our profession is seemingly intended to be stronger on offense, weaker on defense. A rage ability would magnify those characteristics into a class defining feature and establish what our role is.

Also, abouthow powerful the effect should be and how often it could be used: I suggest it be strong enough to be valuable (and fun!) but not so powerful that it has to go on a one hour timer. I mean if it's that strong, how can it be balanced at all?

If it was limited to 10 minutes maximum, followed by a sort of downtimebased on how long you were fired up, it would be about right. It wouldn't be an all powerful ability you call on only in dire circumstances (that would smackof an I WINmove that nobody can defend against, and how is that fun for anybody?), but a useful and effective boost in fighting power to be used often and in situations where you can get the job done and spend a few moments cooling off before the next fight.

Well... we have CoB already for an active supplemental ability, I'd rather have a passive critical strike ability if Gabe agrees after we see how the combat pass shakes out...

How cool would it be to actually hurt a melee tough[ness] TKM in composite with our scythe?*

*assuming they don't fix the accuracy mods on our PHs anytime soon (see pikes)
