I hear various stories, but I dont know what is true and not.

I am a swordsman wannabee, focusing on the defense tree, and starting the TKA also on the defense tree.

Does all this defensive now also add up?

Will I become better in melee and having more saving throws from mobs that try to hit me or not?

Not when they kill you in one hit.

That's certainly true. At the high end there are certainly problems.

For lower-end stuff, I think we do very well. I think that armor helps a lot. Actually I'm only starting as a swordsman. Last nightfor exampleI solo'ed a narglatch hunter outside of Moenia for about 3.4k xps. It was the armor (high-kinetic resist ubese -- I like the look but actually chitin would work as well), mixed with me being able to keep up with consistently very nice damage (with a very nice 2h curved sword). I have medic skills but actually I didn't need to use them. That was after my whole group died in the Narglatch caves. ONe Narglatch that I wasn't able to taunt managed to kill 2 ranged people in our group with all of us pounding on it. That says to me that I'm doing pretty well. But actually maybe that's because I understand how to make armor work for me. Still, I find myself doing very well in low/mid PvE but I know that against the high end stuff I'll just be a one-shot kill.

armor + intimidate 4tehwin!

Translated...

You really should wear a good suit of armor and make judicious use of intimidate, when attempting to place a bowtie around a rancor's neck, my son.
