Thread: Took on my first ancient bull rancor last night

As the subject says, I had my first enounter with an ancient bull rancor. It had 22k ham and as with all bull rancors the evil dot attacks

Well I saw the rancor, meditated my wounds away and did a powerboost as well as a COB. Ok i now have 1500ham and ready to engage the enemy. I pull out my trusty powerhammer with the powerup I just installed on it to have a nice 700 max damage and have it set as F1 so i can uneqip and equip it as needed and in F2 is my speed hammer.

I run towards the ancient bull rancor unarmed and put a warcry and unarmed knockdown 2, the rancor is now on the ground and delayed so I quickly switch to my F1 powerhammer and get a 5300 mind bleed going on the rancor and it is just standing up. Realizing that I can not take many hits from the rancor I turn and run up a hill. I have better terrain mods then the rancor and easily got to the top of the hill and waited for the rancor to reach me.

I watched as the mind of the rancor dropped and dropped. When the rancor got into range it only had 4k ham left. time to swing with the hammer and when I connected the bleed took effect again and my swing killed it.

I never thought i could take out a critter with 20k ham + but I did and am happy.

Next on my list of critters to kill include the stoneskin hanadok (75k ham) blurrg raptor (25k ham)

Right on man, it's a great feeling to solo these huge guys. Check out this screenshot. I soloed the Lok Giant Dune Kimoglia. They have 85kHAM and KILLER disease. At the end of the fight I had 749Health wounds, 749 Action, and 999 mind wounds, leaving me at 1 point for each stat. I only survived because I was buffed of course.

I've tanked Krayts too, but only with groups that have Docs and CMs to support me. I don't think you can totally kill a Krayt alone without Feign Death and/or insane kiting with a bike.

Soloing is so dependant on buffs and armor. I was on Dath last night and got hit by a group of mutant rancors. Not as nasty, but right in the middle of three of them on me, my baby girl started crying and my rule for getting to play is I have to drop it right then and do family stuff first. I looked at the screen, sighed and went to my daughters room.

I come back five minutes later, there are six dead rancor bodies (not the three I started with) and there are five more on me. My mind was low, but not bad, health and action were almost untouched. Good armor (60% kinetic), good buffs (averaging around 1800 with a 2400 hit on health), powerboost and mind food, and a template with some gooddefensive helpand I just sat there and watched. Those five died, three more came up in the process and died as well just on autohit with a good but nothing amazing power hammer.

It's a bit underwhelming to be able to take some of the toughest critters like that, even in large groups and not even have to use strategy to beat them (other than the strategy and tons of hours in getting my char to that state of good template). I killed a pair of ancient bull rancors, three enraged ones, after a while, I would start wtih one, get the mind bleeds on him and then use my rifle to shoot another to get him in on the fight so I didn't waste time just killing one at once :-) In none of these fights did I ever need to heal.

However, I was curious to try out the dreaded night sister elder. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the NS base, every single spot had five or six of them together and my buffs had worn off. I powerboosted, mind fooded and went against a spell weaver and sentinel and I was dead in a minute. They just hit too fast, too hard, too often. I have soloed pretty much every critter (giant kimos, never giant dune kimo yet) other than krayt dragon. Kind of silly that only NPC's and krayt dragons are true butt kickers.

All rancors are too easy, I did 4 in 70% ubese, buffs and of course master heavy lol, all I did was head hit 3 with my 3.6 speed PH, its really not that hard to do rancors, they are wusses.

I still congratulate you though lol.

Ah the good old kimo lol, I finally soloed my 1st Dune Kimo and what a fight it was, nearly incapped because of my mind but it took me 8 mins to take the beast down, I sure as hell felt proud after though lol!

the real challenege is going for them without armor or buffs.....i use my ph with 700 dam and a nice speed powerup that gives it 3.7.... 2 handed hit 3 can wipe them out pretty quick

Grats..

I had an interesting experiance with an Enraged Rancor a few nights back. Decided I was going to master marksman as an add on, and was using a CDEF rifle to plink the lair to death to clear the first box in one go. After about 5mins the Rancor spawns, so I pop a muon, and decide to get a couple of shots in before he reaches me. Fire away..just as he gets into range and I'm about to sitch to my trusty PH, the Comp crashes, and not just to desktop, but a complete lock-up requiring a reboot.

So I'm there pulling out my hair as the comp reboots..SWG loads...the loading screen comes up with the combat music playing...couple mins later I'm back.

I'm only down to half health, action and mind and still poping away at the Ranc. Quickly switch to pH mind bleed, mind bleed, HH3... he gets in a good swipe and my mind drops so no heals..as I put in my last hit the Muon downer kicks in and incaps me...and we drop together. (fortunatly he died first so just had to wait out the incap)

Was closest fight I've had with a Rancor.

(I did manage to solo an ancient bull one time..I was badly diseased and with no Doc decided I'd die and clone..looked for the closest MOB and he was it. Ran up and started the fight..could let him kill me without at least getting a shot of so Mindbled him..he incapped me in one hit..then wondered off and left me lying there, by the time I was back on my feet the bleed had taken his mind down to one..so a shame not to finish him )

Bah, I want my swordsman back, I made master at the weekend but had to surrender it to make my holo of squad leader - once I'm done holo grinding though I'll put my character back to Master Doc/Master Heavy Swordsman, combined with muon gold and other brain food it's the most lethal PvE character template I've found.

I found Torturs are my mission of choice for levelling up, I made half a million 2h xp in an afternoon at the weekend just soloing those critters (along with about a quarter million credits

Pardon for hijacking thread, but WarFerret, how much xp do those give you and where can they be found? I apologize for this again to original poster.

hijack all you want, lol it makes the threads fun to read.

I never use armor or get doctor/entertainer buffs.
Costs too much

I am a poor little fighter.
Well I made it to swordsman 2,3,3,4 last night and for a little fun decided to start finishing brawler

nothing like maxing out the xp for 1hand sword 1 and pikeman 1 after 1 battle each, lol then did the same for the level 2 boxes of each. I will get the level 3's of each tonight since it will only take 6 creatures total to get them, 1 lair has more creatures then that

If all goes well I will kill another 28 creatures and get my master brawler.

4k+ mind bleeds on a mob and standing around waiting for them to bleed to 1 is a nice cheep way to level
