I am a wookiee looking for a profession change. I'm almost to novice swordsman, but after reading this board, I'm afraid I've chosen the wrong prof. I'm a MCH, and I don't plan to change that. The problem that I've seen is that I will have little to no defense, and because I can't wear armor, this poses a serious problem. I want to do melee and swordsman looked fun and unique. Should I go with Fencer or TKA instead for the defenses? I'd love some advice here. I've always been a pistoleer, so melee is a whole new ballgame for me.
Thanks!

Im a Rifleman / novice Swordsman . I am Human , wear no armor and have no problems. With a good pet I would think you would be fine.

Yeah, the defence on Swordsmen is pritty low, but if your a MCH then you should have enough meat shields to keep you alive.

People often forget the Center of Being's Swordsman Counter attack. Master Riflemen, Master Pistoleers, Master Carbineers miss me 9 out of 10 times when I have COB running. We tested it fully the other day when they spam their shots all they see is
Counter attacks

If you're staying Creature Handler, Swordsman is great, it's super high damage output in PvE some of the best hits in the game. With good defenses and counter attacks.

Ok, well, I'm going to stick with it! I tried a new strategy today and it really helps with keeping the creatures off of me. I send in the pet, then stand to the side or behind the creature instead of in front of it. Some creatures seem to have cone vision, so it's kind of like they don't see me whacking them on the butt.
Thanks for the info guys! I'm sure I'll be posting more here asking for advice!

mobs attack whatever is closest once they engage. So, once they attack your creature, as long as it's the closest thing to the mob, you will be forever safe, or at least until your creature goes down, or if what you are fighting does an area attack.

The funniest thing is wookie bounty hunters, I don't know what they were thinking, but bh has less defense than us.

Get Master Brawler!!!! I am a former master swordman/tk/pikeman....never did fencer but seriously get it. It makes any melee template viable. It was my key to sucess in the lower lvls. To exp with MB all you have to do is aggo a single mob buy getting with 15m draw him away warcry2 then lunge2 and you can have your way with him for 20 seconds...when he gets back up rinse repeat! Warcry2...one of the best specials in the game...you will love it....and lunge2 is the KD swordsman sorely miss.....not to mention intimidate2 is the wookiees solution to lack of armor.....the mob will hit you for approximately half dmg!
My advice before you make any rash decisons at least try intimidate1 for a bit......great special....master brawlers the way to go tho! You can afford it!
thanks

Well, if i master brawler to get the warcry2, I'll have to drop ranger and quite a bit of scout.....decisions, decisions. I'll master swordsman first, then see if I REALLY need master brawler. I like my scout/ranger stuff.
I got a powerhammer, but I can't find a two-handed curved sword! Hmm...Radiant weaponsmiths need to get on the ball with this! I'll need that blade, too......

I know how you feel....
This game is one giant compromise.....I think once you a master swordman you will find that you are fast enough and accurate enough to get by......
However, Once you try Warcry2, lunge2, intimidate2 you may never go back.....it will increase your skill as a melee fighter immesurably.
You just got to decide where you want to be the better ranger or the better fighter.....thats all ya can do really...
Good luck ![]()
