Thread: Is this a PH Damage Bug?

I was doing some faction missions on Rori and noticed that my damage numbers did not match up. Well...maybe some screenshots will help.

Number 1
Number 2
Number 3
Number 4

Ok, now, if you will notice, the damage number displayed above the target does not match the number displayed in my combat log. This only happens with the PH. I'll go get more screen shots using the 2h Cleaver, VK, no VK, and a Ryyk Blade. All of the other numbers matched up.

So, my question...has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just me lagging? I'm going to log in and do some more testing right now.

The number in the combat window is the gross damage done to the target. The number above the head of your target is the net damage done to the target. The number over the head of the target includes resists & armor piercing capability.

If this is true...why is it happening over a lair? Still getting some screenies of other weapons.

probably because it is Blast damage, and against lairs the only effective (in my experience) damage type against lairs is kinetic...

This is true. Lairs have some sort of blast resistance. Use a 2h curved sword and you will see numbers you would expect.

Ahh, could be. I'll have to get a Stun Baton and test that out tomorrow. Doing some math, the damage difference is a consistent 40%. I'll look at this more tomorrow with a Stun Baton and testing using a FWG5 (Heat) and blaster (Energy)...

This is the case with all weapons, not just a powerhammer.

If you use a weapon on a target one number will show up in combat chat, but a different number may float over it's head, unless you are using an AP0 weapon on an AR0 target and the target doesn't have any resistance to the damage type. It's pretty rare when using AP weapons that the same number will show over the targets head. I can smash a krayt for 3500 damage with my PH but usually the damage shown over the krayt's head is about 250ish.

Combat spam, the stuff you see in your chat window, has been verified to be inaccurate. Presumably there are some sync issues or what have you that prevent this from being an accurate depiction of damage. The damage shown above the head of your target is the number you should pay attention to.

stun weapons do no damage to lairs. heat works just as well as kinetic does against lairs. i'll have to try out electric, energy, and acid tomorrow.

sort of odd, don't you think? I would think that blast damage would do EXTRA damage to lairs and buildings. after all, that's the damage type of explosives, right? isn't that the only way to take out that kind of stuff in real life? explosives?
