Thread: Weighing Rifleman/Swordsman or Fencer/Swordsman
I've read thru all 3 of these boards and I realize there are a lot of these "hold my hand and tell me whats best!" threads. Thats not exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm tired of master rifleman/ranger. I've always wanted to do fencer and/or swordsman, and I've been gathering info for the past few days on what would be the best pve combination possible.
I've heard that swordsman is essentially the best PvE class available. And I've grouped with enough on dath and other planets to be more then slightly jealous.
So, Pro's and Con's of swordsman/rifleman and swordsman/fencer, discuss. Oh and one limiting factor, I have to keep 0040 ranger
My idea builds right now are:
Master Swordsman - 4003 Rifleman - 0040 Ranger
-or-
Master Swordsman - 4400 Fencer - 0040 Ranger
PLZ post your ideas and feedback. Thank you
However, I would honestly go TKA instead of fencer - pick up the meditation line and the defense line, and if you have the skill pts left over pick up the first knockdown (it can come in handy, though I wouldn't make it a priority).
Just my tree-fitty.

Or switch to carbines... our counter attack stacks (not sure if thats going to last through publish 7)Charge shot is great for PvE factioning. And area shots are great fun.
I recomend getting MASTER headshot if your gonna stick to riffle.. bleeds are a non issue...so skip em.
Other than that i recomend TKA 4004 over ANYTHING in fencer... Meditation 4 is the greatest thing for any combat class... IT HEALS WOUNDS FASTER THAN A DOCTOR CAN!
Power boost is SWEET also.

As a Rifleman/Swordsman, I find it hard to recommend not going with Rifle, but at that build, you are not going to be getting the most out of Rifle. You are picking up rifle accuracy with 4 x x x, but you are going to be hurting for speed at x x x 3. For instance, with Headshot3, a 7 second T21 (kind of average speed for that weapon) will fire at 5.6 seconds per shot vs. 4.2 seconds per shot at x x x 4.
Also, both Rifle and Sword are built for damage output. In return, they get some of the lowest defenses against state changes and the fewest state changes. While this build will pickup two dizzy shots (Flurryshot1 and Flurryshot2), you lose out on the only other state change Rifleman gets, Stun, because that comeswith Flushingshot1 at x x 1 x and Flushingshot2 at x x 3 x (also area effect and the second highest damage shot, btw). And Stun is a good state effect because it lowers defenses, meaning you can hit defense stackers better and have a better chance of applying the dizzy or fighting them with the Sword. The countersniping line also gives you posture change effects with both Flushing shot and Startleshot, but they are all posture change UP, which is not really all that useful except for Rifle against someone who is prone or kneeling. In Melee, you want them down.
You also lose out on Damage Mitigation from the Concealment branch.
If you are going this route, you may want to consider going Rifleman 2 1 1 4 instead. This wil give you Ranged Mitigation I, Concealshot, and Flushingshot1 as well as 10% more speed. I does reduce your accuracy some, and you lose Snipershot and Supriseshot, but Supriseshot is hardly ever used, and at that build, you are not going to be winning a lot of ranged battles with more advanced ranged players anyway, so Rifle will be a complementary skill to a melee oriented profession.
To compensate for speed, you can, of course, use faster rifles with speed slices and speed powerups, but you will be sacrificing damage to do it. But it is an option.
