As a master swordsman what is the best way to pullone mob froma pack?

I have been wondering this myself, and have always thought it to be on of the bigger flaws in this game. You pretty much have to be ready to fight entire spawns at once time, cuz this game is against single pulls for some reason. If you have a ranged weapon skill, you can go prone and hit a bleed and peace as soon as the bleed hits without shooting even 1 more time. If you do this right the bleed will stick, but they won't agro you. As soon as the first tick of the bleed hits they will run to you single. If you don't have any ranged attacks, the only trick I know is to inch up closer and closer one step at a time and hope only one runs at you, it sucks when 5 Nightsister come at you at once though.

Yeah inching up closer and closer is kind of tedious and rarely ever works. I guess we just have to be ready to take them all on.

i get lucky with an intimidate pull every now and then with npc's.

As for creatures, get some scout and hit them with a trap. You can throw those pretty far, and tend to pull only the target.
