Thread: I'm brand new to Melee, and I need help

So after my holo told me to master swordsman, i've wasted very little time in grinding up the two-handed line in Brawler. I can grind pretty quick to this point on low-level stuff, killing most stuff in one or two hits without using any specials.

Box 4 takes considerably more XP, and then there's the LARGE XP hit to get to novice.

I've never done Melee before, so I don't know/understand the best way to use stuff like Warcry and Intimidate, or the two-handed specials to be the most effective against stuff that gives me more than 150xp at a time. I'm ready to tackle bigger stuff.

What's the generally accepted strategy that works best for PvE?

I use Intimidate and Warcry all the time. Also, do not forget Center of Being which comes with Novice Brawler also.

Center of Being is a skill that affects you, so it always works. It improves your defenses, so always use it if you can. Early on, it will not last that long, so keep an eye out for the message that "Your thoughts are drifting away from self-preservation" indicating it is turning off. In a long fight, you will want to reapply it.

Intimidate will cause the creature to hit you less, and Warcry will delay the creature for 10 seconds (WarCry1, 20 seconds for Warcry2 at Master Brawler). However, both of these, like any similar skill, have a chance that theymay not take effect, so you may want to get some stat clothing that adds to both Warcry and Intimidate.

I have a macro that fires offIntimidate, then Warcry, then Center of Being. I fire it off when the creature is about 25m away and moving in. However, I can single pull creatures as a Rifleman using mind bleeds. If you cannot hit them with ranged mind bleeds to do this, target them, move to about 25m, then fire off the macro. This should get them to aggro on you, and will work basically the same way.

If the Intimidate or Warcry do not take, you may want to reapply them individually. But that will be a decision you will need to make based on the situation. That is, you will need to decide if it is worth standing there taking a beating trying to get them to stick vs. just going ahead and taking them on without out one or both of them.

If they both take, however, that sets up your defenses, and gives you around 10 seconds of free shots. Then just start pounding away with your weapon and skill of choice. You have reached 2-Handed II, so youare able to target the mind pool. If you have rifle bleeds or can geta friend with those skills to help, you can get the bleed going, then use /melee2hheadhit1 to pound away at the bleeding pool.

Once you get into Swordman, you can apply your own bleeds with /melee2hmindhit1 and 2, but those are in the Finesse tree, and require Combat XP, but mind hit 1 is in the first box, so you can get it pretty early on. And the good thing is that they stack with rifle bleeds. So once you get bleeds in Sword, you will do as above, then fire off one or both bleeds, then continue pounding away with your best Head Hit.

hmm, i would suggest killing vynock's on corellia. Not to bad of xp and they are really easy. Plus, once you hit box 4 and can area attack, just hit the lair, 10 vynocks will attack you, press are attack twice, all of them fall out of the air. Good luck with swordsman, i hope you like it

after the newest set of nerfs- architect will be the be all, end all for PvP combat, however, the soon to be infamous merchant vendor bugs will make anyone willing to cheat absolutely uber

I just went from 2handed 4 to novice Swordsman in an afternoon doing squall missions on rori. You'll need a pet of some sort to up the level of missions you get though
