If u wanne only harvest meat with your alt than i would give master fencer/sword+tka 4-4-0-4 and scout 1-0-1-0 a chance. go for a droid with +105 harvest and have fun to collect it from the dead critters...

There's NO need to have a stacked template for harvesting. Master ranger and master rifles would be your BEST bet, especially since the nerf bat for rifles (combat "revamp") has been put off for another 6 months or so. Why is rifles better than swords? You can catch them running without having to chase after them. Then send the droid to get whatever meat/hide you need. Plus, Rifles has a tremendous damage range, with energy, stun, heat, cold (lol), kinetic and something else I swear I'm missing. Plus, at master, you'll do more damage quicker than swordsman. Strafe2 will hit for about 3000+ on EACH target in the cone each shot. You'll be mowing down Peko pekos in no time. =)
If you're dead set on melee, go swordsman or pikeman.

first there is no weapon witch a rifleman can use by now with kinetic damage. second many mobs go agro when u attack a member and they will closing in for melee...or do u wanne conceal the whole day? i was master rifle/ch for 2 months and droped it few days ago...believe me...if u wanne have a hard and fast hitter to pull down mobs go for swordsman...rifleman is a great profession for supporting other players in groups but for going solo a melee-prof is far better...

First off, I was under the impression that the Berserker rifle did kinetic damage? Or was that the heat one? But I do believe I'm correct. If not the berserker, then the rifle Luther gives you from the elections is kinetic I believe. If I'm wrong, I'll retract the statement.
Either way..... When you're hunting meat and hide... Not high end stuff like NS elders/protectors, or crystal hunters, you start at 64m with strafe2 (or headshot 3 with a single target) and by the time they reach you, they are dead. Simple as that. From rancors with the DRX6b, to anything else using the T21. Dead. You're not hunting 100K HAM creatures for resources, they're GENERALLY 10K or less. And with 3K per hit, well..... They're not reaching you.
Swordsman is a fun, high damage profession that can solo pretty much anything in the game with very little boosting it. But we're not talking about hunting krayts or elders, we're talking about (usually) Peko Pekos, Pikets, Huurtons, Banthas, etc. And soloing those with rifleman is VERY simple, especially when they start running/warping. With CH, it's even easier, as those two pair up terrifically together. It's not like I'm talking out of my a$$ here, I've done rifleman/CH, rifleman/swordsman, swordsman/pikeman, and now swordsman/TKM. One of my main ways of grinding credits were hunting the 100 CPU avian/herbivore/wooly, and nothing was as easy and quicker than rifleman.
Editing the post a bit - checked the rifle forums, and the lithium rifle (from the elections) was changed to energy from kinetic, and the berserker went from kinetic to heat. Not 100% certain about the tusken king rifle, but that's pretty much decoration anyways. Not TOO much of a difference, but when I'm wrong, I'll admit it.

Err, I should move to the rifleman forums, but you guys seem knowledgable. So is the verdict ranger (tracking), medic 443x, and master rifleman? Or less ranger and more TK or something?

There'd be nothing wrong with TKA, as you can do a lot of damage, VERY fast. Same as swordsman, really. TKA limits you to kinetic damage, but you won't find anything worth harvesting with 100% kinetic resists. The only 2 I can think of off the top of my head is the Malkoc plains walkers and peko peko albatrosses, but there's no reason to hunt those for resources, as it would be inefficient anyways.
Look, swordsman would fit. Pikeman would fit. TKA would fit. Rifleman would fit. Heck, commando would fit too, but meh.... It's all about what YOU like best, as they all do a tremendous amount of damage. I would say rifleman would be most convenient because you don't have to be right next to them, so you can catch them running away, or running towards you.
Do what you feel would suit your playing style, because what it boils down to is this: You're playing to have fun, too.

I am currently master brawler/master swords/ ranger 0030/ fencer 2000 and I can pretty much kill anything I need to without much trouble at all. You could move the fencer part in to medic if you want heals, but with buffs and good armor I don't need any heals even against Nightsister Elders.

First let me tell you that my main character is a doctor/merchant and cannot aquire the meats by himself. So I go ahead and buy an alt so this alt could gather the meats for him. I've tried pistoleer/ranger (it's actually xx4x ranger, with 433x medic), and pistoleer isn't in the meat-gathering realm..."hawt". So I need a profession that is less than 80% broken (that's asking a lot) that allows me to effectively gather meats. So I said to myself, "Rifleman? Nahh, too risky. Fencer? Nahh, not to hawt on the dmg. Swordsman? Hmm, that sounds interesting. Good damage, nice mods, and people like it. Why not?" If there isn't anything better that you can mention, I want your thoughts on Swords/rangermed. I know it's not the *uber* PvE template, but I think it might be the *uber* meat-gatherer...which is kind of awkward.

You can Taunt the ones that try to run off. No need running down a corpse to loot or harvest. Oh, I'll take the Pepsi challenge against a pack of Rancors or NS's any day... you with your Rifle and me with my Scythe. ![]()

See the template in the sig? NOT a rifleman anymore. And geez, HOW many times do I have to reitterate this, it's for harvesting, not rancor hunting, or elder soloing, or krayt killing. What kills lesser animals the fastest? And that's rifles.

Sorry, I don't pay attention to sigs. Sure you could be quicker with a rifle sitting outside towns and shooting the newbie spawns, butthat's awaste of time IMO. I'd much rather be out harvestingRancorsespecially considering the carnivore meat on Bloodfin is going for 40cpu right now. To each his own I guess.

I'm doing with my alt exactly what you are doing, Master Rifleman and Master Ranger. While harvesting for my main (Swoardsman/Architect) and my Wifes character (Doc/CM) I have also wanted to try rifles out (and do ranger, love those big camps).
I must admit I had the same thoughts as you, would a melee class be better (swordmans rocks, love being one) but I have seen a few Rifle/Ranger combos and they don't seem to have any trouble at all.
It's just until you get to master rifleman they seem not as powerful (relatively) as when you work through a melee class. I'm sticking with rifleman for the moment.
As some have mentioned nearly any melee class if more than capabile of being a harvesting machine (I have char on different servers part or all the way through all four melee profs), if I decide rifleman doesn't work out then I will go TKM I think. Being able to meditate to clear wounds, poisons and diseases in the field would be very useful
